The Great British Bake Off 2024: Episode 6 Elimination Results

The sixth episode of The Great British Bake Off aired on Channel 4 on October 29, 2024. In this episode, the seven remaining contestants took on the challenge of crafting autumn-themed bakes to vie for the coveted title of star baker during Autumn Week.

Following a challenging Autumn Week, the episode concluded with Nelly being sent home after her ‘Woman in Autumn’ Cake failed to impress the judges. Upon her exit from the show, she expressed her readiness to leave, admitting that she “never really thought”she would make it this far in the competition.

“I know my children are incredibly proud. This isn’t just about winning; it’s about enjoying the experience. Don’t cry! Everyone is emotional… I discovered who I am! And that I am worthy!”Nelly shared.

Noah Fielding and Alison are at the helm of hosting the current season of The Great British Bake Off, while the esteemed judges, Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith, scrutinize the contestants’ creations.

Nelly’s Journey in The Great British Bake Off 2024 Episode 6

This episode showcased Autumn Week, where bakers were tasked with crafting “sweet pies inspired by autumn and turning vegetables into stunning cakes.”

The proceedings started with the Signature Bake challenge, where participants were required to create a sweet pie inspired by the classic American pumpkin pie.

Contestants were encouraged to add their unique flavors to the pumpkin pie, as Judge Paul anticipated the use of harmonious seasonal spices to reflect the harvest season.

Nelly introduced her interpretation with the ‘Out in Nature’ Pie, packed with apples and poppy seeds. While Judge Prue found it to be an unconventional choice, Paul praised its “exquisite”filling that “flaked beautifully.”Nevertheless, he noted that the pie could have benefited from extra baking time.

Nelly Finished 5th in the Technical Challenge

During the technical challenge of episode 6, Prue announced the requirement for contesting bakers to craft vegan parkin—a ginger-flavored cake with a twist to increase the difficulty.

Post-challenge, the bakers were ranked, with Illiyin claiming the top spot, followed by Georgie, Sumayah, and Dylan. Nelly found herself in fifth place, with Christiaan and Gill following in sixth and seventh.

Nelly’s ‘Woman in Autumn’ Cake Did Not Captivate the Judges

For the Showstopper round, contestants faced the challenge of creating an Autumn Festival Cake that incorporated seasonal vegetables. While carrot was the ingredient of choice for many, some bakers opted for beetroot, spinach, and celeriac.

Nelly’s final entry was a “Woman in Autumn”cake that garnered praise from Prue for its “exquisite”chocolate and avocado decorations. Unfortunately, the cake’s multi-layered design resulted in it being slightly too heavy, contributing to Nelly’s elimination from the competition.

Other bakers showcased their impressive creations:

  • Georgie: ‘Tree Trunk Scene’ Cake
  • Sumayah: ‘Autumn Leaves’ Harvest Cake
  • Gill: Bonfire ‘Parrot’ Cake
  • Illyin: Day of the Dead Cake
  • Dylan: Diwali Cake
  • Christiaan: ‘Roots of Samhain’ Cake

Sumayah was honored as the Star Baker for week 6 of The Great British Bake Off 2024, excelled in both the Technical and Showstopper challenges. Unfortunately, Nelly ended at the bottom of the rankings, leading to her departure from the show.

Contestants Remaining in Season 15

Following Nelly’s exit, six bakers continue to compete for the title. Remaining contestants include Christiaan, a 33-year-old menswear designer from London, Dylan, a 20-year-old retail worker from Buckinghamshire, and Georgie, a 34-year-old pediatric nurse from Carmarthenshire. The other participants are Gill, a 53-year-old Senior Category Manager from Lancashire; Illiyin, a 31-year-old Birth Trauma Specialist Midwife from Norfolk; and Sumayah, a 19-year-old Dentistry student from Lancashire.
