Recap of Episode 5 from Season 15
The fifth episode of Season 15 revolved around Pastry Week, where contestants faced three distinct challenges testing their skill and endurance.
In the signature challenge, bakers presented their takes on frangipane tarts, with Gill excelling with her pistachio version, while others like Nelly and Illiyin struggled to impress.
During the technical task, participants attempted to make spinach and feta spanakopita within a two-and-a-half-hour time limit. A common pitfall was the notorious ‘soggy bottom’ caused by excess moisture from the spinach. Dylan emerged victorious in this challenge, securing first place, followed closely by Christiaan.
The showstopper challenge added complexity, requiring bakers to create a Paris Brest along with an edible cake stand. Gill wowed the judges with her lemon thyme-infused dessert, served on a resilient orange biscuit base, earning her the title of Star Baker for the week.
Tragically, Andy’s Paris Brest mishap led to his elimination from the competition.
Don’t forget to tune into The Great British Bake Off 2024 episode 6, airing on October 29 on Channel 4.
