Debuting on September 24, The Great British Bake Off is an iconic baking contest showcasing talented amateur bakers from every corner of the United Kingdom. Weekly, contestants tackle a variety of baked creations, ranging from signature bakes to stunning showstoppers, all assessed by renowned chefs and bakers.
Despite the competitive nature of The Great British Bake Off 2024, audiences are drawn to its heartfelt moments and the camaraderie shared among the contestants. As the season unfolds, several bakers have exited the tent, each leaving their unique imprint on the series, including Jeff, Hazel, John, Mike, Andy, and Nelly.
Which bakers have exited The Great British Bake Off 2024?
Jeff and Hazel
The first week of The Great British Bake Off 2024 ended without any eliminations due to Jeff’s health issues. However, the first official eliminations took place during episode 2 on October 1, when both Jeff and Hazel left the competition.
During the Technical challenge, Jeff decided to withdraw after struggling with illness throughout the episode. He expressed his gratitude for the experience, sharing:
“I have really enjoyed it… it was wonderful, so thank you very much.”
Shortly after, Hazel received the elimination news from Alison Hammond. Reflecting on her time in the tent, she remarked:
“All my bakes went wrong. Maybe I won’t make biscuit puppet theatres anymore!”
John
John, who clinched the title of Star Baker in the first week, became the third contestant to leave the competition after Bread Week in episode 3, aired on October 8. Noel informed him about his exit following Dylan’s Star Baker announcement for the week. John accepted the news with composure, stating:
“It was expected, it was just a bad week this week.”
He acknowledged how a single mishap could lead to elimination, recognizing the exceptional talent of his fellow bakers. Even though he had to leave, John took pride in being named Star Baker for the season, recounting his struggles especially during the baking of bagels, which he had previously mastered.
Mike
In episode 4, which aired on October 15, Mike became the fourth baker to exit after a lackluster Caramel Week. His departure came after the judges evaluated the quality of his bakes. Mike remarked on the talent level of his peers, saying:
“I feel the quality of what everyone else is doing is just breathtaking.”
Feeling sad about leaving, he treasured the friendships formed during the competition and recalled a poignant moment when his mother advised him not to shed tears.
Andy
Andy was the fifth baker to exit after facing challenges during Pastry Week in episode 5, aired on October 22. Alison conveyed the elimination news, and Andy accepted it graciously, reflecting on his journey. He expressed his gratitude for the experiences had, despite the outcome:
“It’s sad, but I had such a fantastic time,”
Prue also voiced her disappointment over Andy’s exit, stating:
“It’s so sad to see Andy go. I adore the guy, but he just didn’t have a good week.”
Nelly
Nelly was the last contestant to leave the tent in the most recent episode of The Great British Bake Off after a tough week. She maintained a positive outlook during her exit, stating:
“It’s not commiseration, it is a positive… I never ever thought I would get to round 6!”
Nelly’s closing remarks emphasized the importance of enjoyment in the baking process rather than focusing solely on winning. She added:
“In each of your heart is a piece of Nelly and you are never going to forget me. Cake – we can bake!”
