Dion Smith, born in the early 1990s into a nurturing family environment, was a respected member of his community. He had a close relationship with his brother T.J. Smith, who later became a spokesperson for Baltimore County.

From a young age, he was involved with the Kids Safe Zone, a program he passionately supported well into adulthood. He worked two jobs to provide for his family and was a caring father to his two children. Smith was so beloved by the kids he worked with that when he attempted to resign from Kids Safe Zone, they rallied against it.

Committed to being a responsible father and a strong family man, he aspired to cultivate a nurturing and prosperous environment for his children.

Unfortunately, this dream was brutally interrupted on July 2, 2017, when Smith was found shot to death in his home on the 1400 block of Argyle Avenue, located in the Upton neighborhood of West Baltimore.

He was killed with a shotgun.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered critical evidence against the suspect through CCTV footage. This led them to identify Terrell Gibson, a man with a prior criminal record.

Witnesses confirmed having seen Terrell Gibson entering and exiting the deceased’s residence, which provided sufficient grounds for the authorities to obtain an arrest warrant.

Dion Smith’s murderer was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault, and reckless endangerment. However, the murder weapon was never recovered, and no clear motive emerged from the investigation.

Authorities claimed Dion and Terrell were involved in a dispute within the home that escalated to Gibson shooting Dion Smith. Terrell, however, maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings.

In his September 2018 trial, he proclaimed his innocence, yet the jury found him guilty of murdering Dion Smith. He received a life sentence with 65 years to serve and an additional 15 years for the unlawful use of a firearm.

Terrell Gibson remains incarcerated at North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland.

The upcoming episode of See No Evil will delve deeper into this case.
