The Challenge 40 premiered episode 7 on October 2 at 8 pm ET/PT on MTV and Paramount+. This season has witnessed contestants selecting friends for elimination. Season 40 features former contestants battling against fresh challengers, categorized into four groups known as Eras.
After six exciting episodes, 24 players are competing for the grand prize of $1 million. TJ Lavin returns as the beloved host of The Challenge 40. In last week’s elimination, Cory and Rachel emerged victorious, giving them the crucial power to select two players from each Era as this week’s targets, resulting in the elimination of Era 1’s Tina and Darrell by the episode’s conclusion.
Amid the chaos and unforeseen twists, challengers took a daring leap from a 56-story helipad during the opening challenge. Additionally, they celebrated Devin’s birthday, with Ryan and Derek dressed as their drag alter egos Tarje and Cherry.
What transpired in The Challenge 40 episode 7?
The episode kicked off with Cory and Rachel selecting their targets for the week, including Darrell and Tina from Era 1, Nehemiah and Aviv from Era 2, Jordan and Nia from Era 3, and Kyland and Michele from Era 4. Cory expressed his frustration with Era 4, claiming they were “winding (him) up.”Rachel suggested a collaboration between Era 1 and Era 2 to Nehemiah.
Rachel expressed regret over including Nehemiah as a target, mentioning that if Darrell and Tina achieved power after the next challenge, Nehemiah and Aviv would be solid allies. Bananas questioned the decision of not targeting Ryan, despite his subpar performance. The Challenge 40 contestants threw a lively birthday bash for Devin with entertainment from Ryan and Derek.
The following day introduced the new challenge, named ‘Leap of Faith.’ Competitors had to leap from a 56-story helipad, retrieve flags that correlated with puzzle boxes, and the team finishing first would win the challenge.
Josh took 18 minutes to reach the helipad, while Theo snatched a bonus flag, which cut three minutes off their time. Bananas and Era 2 followed, completing the challenge in approximately nine minutes by securing the bonus flag as well. In Era 1’s round, Tina pulled two flags, earning her team a five-minute penalty, but they too captured the bonus flag. Era 3 finished last but picked up the bonus flag without making mistakes.
The results revealed Era 4 as the weakest link, sending Kyland and Michele into elimination from The Challenge 40. Era 3 claimed victory in under a minute, granting Jordan and Nia the power to choose which Era would face elimination. After the challenge, Olivia confided in Nia about her feelings for Theo.
Nia found it challenging to choose anyone for elimination as she had friendships with all, but was keen to see the underdogs succeed. Subsequently, players at risk pleaded their cases to Jordan and Nia during the elimination deliberation. Ultimately, Jordan announced that Darrell and Tina would go head-to-head against Kyland and Michele.
The elimination challenge for episode 7 was named ‘Boxster-Phobia.’ Contestants needed to find an escape route using sliding doors and rods while cracking a code— the quickest with the correct answer would avoid elimination.
Michele faced off against Tina and, despite having to double-check the numbers, she emerged victorious. In the men’s round, Darrell took on Kyland, who claimed victory. This resulted in Era 1 being left with just two contestants as Tina and Darrell were eliminated from The Challenge 40.
