The Challenge 40 Episode 10 Recap: Coin Flip Determines Men’s Fate as Individual Battles Commence

The Challenge, one of the most enduring reality television series, aired its 10th episode of the 40th season on October 24 at 8 PM ET/PT, accessible on MTV and Paramount+.

This episode transitioned from team-based competitions to individual challenges, with Rachel (Era 1), Aviv (Era 2), and Jenny (Era 4) identified as the female targets, while the male competitors included Derek (Era 2), Ryan (Era 2), and the ever-familiar Johnny Bananas (Era 2). TJ Lavin is back as the host, and the grand prize for the winner remains an impressive $1 million.

In the previous episode, Derrick and Averey were eliminated during gladiator week following a dramatic shift in alliances. Currently, 18 contestants are still vying for the top spot, but Era 1 is down to its last competitor in The Challenge 40.

The official description for episode 10 states:

“The game takes a significant twist as the Challengers must now operate individually to seize victory, while still representing their respective eras; a challenging and intense game has one participant seeing double and another wishing they could turn back time.”

Recap of The Challenge 40 Episode 10

Jordan discussed his strategy with Michele and Olivia, revealing his plan to eliminate Bananas to prevent him from gaining traction in the competition.

Upon arriving at the challenge venue the next day, TJ announced that a coin toss would determine which gender would participate in the elimination round. The outcome indicated that the men would compete against each other, with the losing female contestant facing a disadvantage in the next competition.

This week’s challenge, titled “Fire Away,”required competitors to collect balls, place their names on a cylinder, and solve a puzzle to secure a victory.

During the challenge, Bananas had a rocky start, mistakenly dropping two balls into Jordan’s cylinder, which TJ stated could not be retrieved.

In the end, Jordan emerged as the male winner while Tori claimed victory among the women. The two victors were given the power to choose their opponents for the elimination round. Notably, Ryan’s puzzle performance earned him a last-place finish among the men.

As the contestants battled through the sweltering heat, the female competition escalated sharply, with Michele becoming numb and needing medical attention. Ultimately, she completed the round but ended up in last position.

Following the challenge, the competitors convened at the house, where Jordan and Tori opted to pit Bananas against Ryan in the elimination arena. Subsequently, Rachel and Tori formed a strategic alliance, recognizing their strengths as major contenders in the game.

Rachel also struck a deal with Jordan, while Tori joined forces with others enthusiastic about eliminating Bananas.

The elimination round, dubbed “Killer Quads,”involved the contestants racing on quads around a circuit. Starting on opposite ends, they had to catch their rival to claim their ribbon.

The first to successfully secure two ribbons would not only win the elimination round but also ensure their continued participation in the competition.

Ultimately, Bananas triumphed over Ryan, winning two straight rounds, which resulted in Ryan’s elimination. TJ informed Bananas that he could designate three women as targets, excluding Tori, who had won the daily challenge.

Unhappy with this ruling, Bananas proceeded to name Nia, Olivia, and Michele as his targets.
