Quick Navigation
Fans of Solo Leveling are increasingly voicing their concerns about the current adaptations in the much-anticipated Jeju Island arc. Known for its gripping storytelling and action, this segment of the manhwa had high expectations from audiences, particularly as it reaches pivotal moments in the anime.
However, as Season 2 unfolds, discontent among fans has escalated. While constructive criticism from viewers is nothing new, the frequency of complaints has raised eyebrows. Despite this, the general sentiment remains manageable for the time being.
Dissecting Jinwoo vs. Ryuji Goto: “Where’s the Contrast?”

The introduction of Japanese hunters in the Jeju Island arc adds a fresh dynamic, particularly with the strongest hunter from Japan, Goto, eager to challenge Jinwoo. This engagement is pivotal as it represents a clash of strength and abilities.
While the original manhwa clearly establishes Jinwoo’s dominance over Goto, the anime adaptation appears to downplay that disparity, softening Jinwoo’s powerhouse image during the confrontation. Consequently, key moments, notably when Jinwoo fends off Goto’s attack, miss the intensity that fans anticipated.
I don’t understand why in ep 10 of solo leveling they changed this panel specifically bc in the manhwa haein and yoonho hold jinwoo and only one person holds goto, so it implicitly shows that jinwoo is stronger than goto and they also cut the panel of goto looking scared pic.twitter.com/dtp2fE97ko — bibi ðŸ\u008f\u0090 (@bokutocosmic) March 8, 2025
Subsequent discussions, especially on platforms like Reddit, highlight a mix of opinions. One user acknowledged the intent behind the changes but expressed disappointment with the execution.
Anime Onlys shouldn’t read this: The anime opted to not have this moment be definitively SJW’s overwhelming win. Not gonna lie, I actually think it works better in the anime. It keeps Goto relevant for anime onlys, and it’ll be even more hype when Beru no diffs Goto only to get no diffed by SJW afterward. The anime hinted just enough that SJW is stronger than Goto by catching his hand and Goto inner monologuing surprise that his hand was caught rather than the wrist, but anime onlys don’t know just how big the gap between the two is.
Another respondent noted dissatisfaction with the latest episode, despite an appreciation for the narrative slowing down to build anticipation:
I agree with most people that it’s good they toned down Jin-Woo during the fight to add build up, but this was by far my least favorite episode in the series even including season 1.
Are Fans Overreacting to Episode 10?

Viewers invested in a faithful adaptation of the manhwa might find themselves disheartened by significant deviations in recent episodes. While some alterations can enhance the narrative, the current portrayal of Japanese hunters has raised questions. Fans have noted that this approach softens the more controversial aspects found in both the manhwa and novel:
It’s not that deep fam, they wanted to make Goto likable I mean he is Japanese and obv anime is made in Japan also you can notice there is not a single word about Japan plan to betray Korean hunters.
What’s Next for Solo Leveling?
Sung Jinwoo’s decision to decline participation in the raid reflects a weighty responsibility at home, but tensions rise as the situation on Jeju Island deteriorates with the emergence of stronger ant adversaries, necessitating strategic reevaluation. Although Jinwoo has confidence in fellow S-Rank hunters, the unfolding events suggest mounting challenges ahead.
Solo Leveling is accessible for streaming on Crunchyroll, available with subtitles and dubbing in various languages.
