“That’s a murder”: NBA fans in disbelief as Heat thrash Blazers by 60 points
The Portland Trail Blazers put up little resistance against the Miami Heat on Friday night. In a dominant performance, Miami secured a commanding 142-82 win, marking the largest margin of victory in franchise history.
This 60-point victory stands as the second-highest win margin in the NBA this season, second only to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 62-point triumph, which was also against the Trail Blazers.
After the blowout, X, formerly known as Twitter, was inundated with reactions from NBA fans who were shocked by the team’s massive loss.
A fan stated:
“That’s literally is murder”
The following reactions from fans on X were also highly popular:
The Heat exhibited a cohesive team performance in order to accomplish this task, with a total of six players scoring in the double digits, including four of them reaching at least 20 points.
The top scorer for the team was Thomas Bryant with 26 points, closely followed by Terry Rozier with 22, Bam Adebayo with 21, and Haywood Highsmith with 20 points.
With the victory on Friday night, Miami’s record improved to 40-33, giving them possession of the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
The significant win could provide the Heat with the necessary momentum to make a strong push towards the end of the season and avoid the Play-In tournament.
Miami broke their previous team margin record of 43 points, which was set against the LA Clippers on Dec. 29, 1994. They also set a new team record by recording 41 assists.
Out of 39 attempts, they managed to make 21 3-point shots, with Highsmith having a 5-out-of-6 success rate and Rozier making 6 shots out of 10 attempts. Adebayo also made two successful 3-pointers.
Scoot Henderson records worst plus-minus in NBA history in loss to Miami Heat
Despite being a rookie, Scoot Henderson has faced numerous obstacles throughout his season, which were prominently showcased during the team’s overwhelming loss to Miami. Henderson ended the game with a historically low plus-minus of -58, further emphasizing the challenges he has faced in the NBA thus far.
Despite the loss to the Miami Heat, it was not the most devastating defeat for Portland this season. The Trail Blazers experienced an even greater setback on Jan. 11 when they were defeated by the Thunder 139-77.
During that game, Henderson once again became the center of attention as he finished with a minus-56. This surpassed his previous record of having the second-worst plus-minus in NBA history, which was only recently achieved by Manny Harris of the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 2011 loss to the LA Lakers.
The player who was chosen as the third pick in the 2023 NBA draft has been scoring an average of 13.2 points, along with 3.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists for the struggling Trail Blazers. At the moment, his overall plus-minus for the season stands at -422, making him the sixth-lowest in the league.
