“That was brutal” — Fans of The Golden Bachelorette React to Pascal’s Decision to End Relationship with Joan
The latest episode of The Golden Bachelorette premiered on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, featuring Joan and her remaining three romantic contenders in Tahiti for their overnight dates in the Fantasy Suites. However, one contestant chose to exit the show, unable to let go of his past relationship.
During the episode, Pascal opened up to host Jesse Palmer regarding his ex. He shared that he had an on-and-off relationship that lingered until the previous year. Although he initially joined the show with hopes of finding love again, he soon recognized that he hadn’t fully moved on from his former partner.
Pascal’s self-doubt intensified during a special bonding ceremony with Joan that mimicked a wedding. It was at that moment he realized he was not prepared for a serious commitment with her. He subsequently requested a private conversation to express that he wasn’t in love with her and preferred to remain friends. After his departure, Joan conveyed feelings of disappointment and perceived failure.
Fans of The Golden Bachelorette flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on Pascal’s departure. While some were not shocked by his decision, others criticized his timing so close to the finale.
“I know what true love is and I don’t feel that for you,”Pascal said – poor Joan, that was harsh,”one fan reacted.
“I care about you as a friend,”seriously Pascal,”another user tweeted.
“Why do I feel like Pascal is breaking up with me?”a user posted.
Many viewers believed that Pascal had never been genuinely interested in Joan from the start, so his decision to end the romantic connection didn’t surprise them. Some even questioned how he made it to the final three contestants.
“Pascal knew he wasn’t ready for any of this, yet he kept accepting roses from Joan. Those could have gone to men who truly wanted to stay. Joan wasted too much time on him,”another fan commented.
“I doubt Pascal would have been the final choice anyway. Joan seemed taken aback and hurt that her feelings weren’t mirrored. Being rejected stings,”a commenter noted.
“PASCAL is breaking up with Joan???? How did he even get this far?”one fan expressed.
Simultaneously, several The Golden Bachelorette viewers were disappointed that Pascal didn’t come to terms with his feelings sooner in the season.
“Pascal… stunned he had to discuss his ‘feelings and emotions’ while being in the TOP 3?”one person tweeted.
“Honestly, I didn’t foresee Pascal putting Joan in the friend zone, declaring there was no spark. Just a week after he introduced her to his family?”another user expressed.
“Pascal came on the show, showed off his good looks, and left as soon as things became real,”another netizen remarked.
“I care about you as a friend”— The Golden Bachelorette’s Pascal ends things with Joan
During his conversation with Jesse, Pascal admitted that he was “very much in love”with his former partner, but their relationship deteriorated, leading to their breakup. He reflected on that experience, expressing, “I want to move on, but it’s proving to be challenging.”
Despite his nostalgia for his past relationship, Pascal initially seemed to be enthusiastic about his connection with Joan, stating he was looking forward to their dates and hoped to leave with a “lifetime partner.”However, after partaking in a heartfelt ceremony with her, doubt crept in regarding his devotion. The ritual required participants to share their deepest “feelings and emotions,”a discussion for which Pascal felt unprepared. In light of this, he decided he could not continue on The Golden Bachelorette.
Determined to address things honestly, Pascal sought a “serious”talk with Joan later that day, aiming to reveal his genuine emotions. He explained how profoundly the breakup with his ex last year affected him, adding that his daughter had encouraged him to join The Golden Bachelorette soon afterward. After reflecting on how he reached the final three, he pondered, “Why am I here? What does this mean for me?”
Pascal expressed that he wanted to avoid hurting her feelings, which he valued greatly. Therefore, he conveyed:
“I care about you as a friend. But I’m not in love… I need that spark, and I just don’t feel it. I’m truly sorry.”
Before parting ways, he assured Joan he would always be “a phone call away,”and after exchanging “I love yous,”they said their goodbyes.
The Golden Bachelorette broadcasts every Wednesday at 8 PM ET exclusively on ABC.
