Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Cardi B responded with humor and clarity after a fan of Nicki Minaj claimed she reignited the ongoing feud between the two rappers.
On October 3, 2024, Cardi shared a clip on Twitter from Whitney Houston’s iconic 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer. This led a fan to accuse Cardi of throwing shade at Minaj, igniting a flurry of heated discussions online. In response to the speculation, Cardi expressed on her Twitter account that her conflict with Minaj is “stale.”
“B*tch that beef so stale and dry and do nothing for me,”Cardi wrote.
According to UPROXX, the rivalry between hip-hop icons Cardi B and Nicki Minaj reportedly began in 2017 when Cardi’s hit single “Bodak Yellow”soared to the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This remarkable achievement made Cardi the first female solo rapper to top the chart in nearly twenty years, a milestone that Nicki Minaj had long pursued during her career.
Cardi B addresses alleged shade directed at Nicki Minaj
On Thursday, Cardi B took to Twitter to respond to comments made by a fan of Nicki Minaj, delivering a pointed rebuttal. In her tweet, Cardi emphasized that fans should stop harassing others online, as such behavior can provoke reactions.
She also touched on the ongoing social media tension between their respective fan bases.
“As fans, stop harassing people over dumb sh*t if y’all don’t want a f*ckn respond. Y’all all over my quotes over a meme that ain’t had sh*t to do wit y’all,”Cardi wrote.
The speculation started when Cardi posted a brief clip from Whitney Houston’s legendary interview, during which Sawyer questioned Houston about her health and potential drug use. Houston replied pointedly, asking if she wanted to know.
Following Cardi’s post, another user queried why she had begun sharing memes about Whitney Houston, implying that she was trying to imitate Minaj. Cardi quickly addressed this by sharing a screenshot demonstrating that she had referenced Whitney Houston back in 2021, making it clear that this was not a new trend for her.
“You sure bout that?? Now go see if b***hes was posting this meme before that date,”Cardi responded.
Another Twitter user then posted a lengthy remark accusing Cardi B of taking a shot at Nicki Minaj, sparking the online exchange that prompted Cardi’s response. However, Cardi’s initial tweet did not mention Minaj, leading to speculation that her post had been misinterpreted.
“You wanna say her name so bad to stay relevant bc your career is a mess and your ni**a was on his 29th side b**ch while you were pregnant so you bookmark 6 am tweets to respond to later in hopes that people will remember you and go stream your 6 year old album since the next one isn’t coming,”the user stated.
It’s possible that Cardi’s sharing of the Whitney Houston clip was also a response to a separate controversy involving DJ Akademiks, who had recently claimed that Cardi cheated on her husband, Offset, with an NFL player.
A brief overview of the Cardi B and Nicki Minaj feud
The rivalry between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj intensified in October 2017 when Migos featured both rappers in their single “Motorsport,”with scenes featuring Cardi and Minaj filmed separately, causing speculation. In April 2018, Minaj suggested during a Beats 1 interview with Zane Lowe that Cardi didn’t support her account of their separate filming dates, which further fueled the feud.
“You still did interviews just to paint Nicki as the bad person. And play the victim. And that really, really hurt me because I really fully supported her,”Minaj stated.
She added,
“And up until this recent interview she did [with Ebro Darden for Beats 1], I had never seen her show me genuine love in an interview. And I can only imagine how many girls wished they could’ve been on a song with Nicki Minaj.”
In September 2018, the conflict escalated dramatically when both artists became involved in a physical altercation at New York Fashion Week, where Cardi allegedly threw a shoe at Nicki.
Later in 2022, after the release of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl (Queen Mix),”some of the featured artists, including Akbar V and JT, openly criticized Cardi B. Fans speculated that Minaj had influenced their comments, although this was not explicitly confirmed.
