Terence Crawford out, Errol Spence Jr. in for the winner of Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora, says CEO of Mayweather promotions
Despite being the mandatory challenger for the WBO super welterweight title, Terence Crawford will not be facing the winner of the upcoming bout between Tim Tszyu and Sebastian Fundora for the belt on March 30, as confirmed by Leonard Ellerbe.
Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, stated that the victor of this weekend’s WBO super welterweight championship bout will face off against Errol Spence Jr. in their next fight.
‘The Soul Taker’ received news yesterday that Spence Jr. had expressed his desire to fight the winner of the bout between him and Fundora. The Australian fighter responded with a playful response, but also mentioned his interest in potentially facing ‘Bud’ for the WBO title.
Prior to Tszyu vs. Fundora, FightHype.com interviewed Ellerbe and inquired about the potential opponent for the winner of their match. In response, Ellerbe stated:
“Errol Spence Jr., and it’s no knock on Crawford. But Errol Spence Jr. is family. He has a relationship with the PBC, and has had a relationship [for] a number of years. If I’m not mistaken, for one, let me start with: Terence Crawford is a beast. But I think he’s let it be known that he’s a free agent and he’s not with the PBC. So you know kind of how that goes.”

Andre Ward Believes Errol Spence Jr. Will Face Tough Obstacles in Potential Rematch Against Terence Crawford
The highly anticipated showdown between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. took place in July of 2023. This long-awaited clash marked a significant moment in the last thirty years as the pair battled it out to determine the first undisputed welterweight champion of the ‘four belt era’. To add to the excitement, both fighters entered the ring with undefeated records.
Despite expectations of a closely contested battle, Crawford dominated the fight from the very beginning. He sent Spence Jr. to the canvas three times before ultimately securing a TKO victory in the ninth round.
Despite ‘The Truth’ exercising his right to a rematch as stated in his contract, negotiations were unable to be completed before the expiration date last year, resulting in the fight being cancelled.
Prior to a possible rematch at 154 pounds, Andre Ward, a Hall of Famer, analyzed the psychological obstacles that Spence Jr. will have to overcome in order to defeat ‘Bud’. He stated the following:
“For Errol, it’s not going to be easy to overcome that. That’s a lot of psychological stuff that goes into that. You’re hard-wired all these years to be the guy, and he was. And when that happens against another top dog… You’ve got to do some soul searching.”
