Telegram Desktop App Launches for Windows on ARM
The Telegram Desktop application, a staple for Windows users since its introduction several years ago, has taken a significant step forward. Originally made available in the Microsoft Store in 2017, the app has now officially released its initial builds tailored specifically for Windows on ARM devices.
Overcoming Technical Challenges
Initially, there were challenges that hindered further development of the app for the ARM architecture. However, thanks to recent fixes from Microsoft, Telegram was able to successfully compile the source code for this platform. The initial version, released as part of Telegram’s v5.7.2, is now available for download, marking a crucial advancement for users on ARM-based systems.
Microsoft’s Ongoing Commitment to ARM Compatibility
Microsoft is actively addressing ARM compatibility, particularly for developers. In the latest Canary Channel Insider Preview build, Microsoft introduced a significant update to the Prism emulator. This enhancement aims to expand the range of 64-bit x86 (x64) applications that can run through emulation on Windows on ARM.
Enhanced Application Support
Alongside this latest Prism upgrade, which was also included in the recent Windows 11, version 24H2 release, Adobe Premiere Pro 25 now operates seamlessly on ARM devices. More excitingly, this introduction allows previously incompatible x64 applications—such as various games and creative software—to execute on ARM-based PCs, thereby broadening the horizons for users.
Growing Native Application Ecosystem
As Windows on ARM continues to evolve, an increasing number of third-party developers are unveiling native applications. Notable apps that have already made the transition include Chrome, Spotify, Zoom, WhatsApp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Blender, Affinity Suite, DaVinci Resolve, Arc browser, NordVPN, and ProtonVPN. Furthermore, popular platforms like Slack and Google Drive are expected to launch native versions soon, further enhancing the ARM ecosystem.

The influx of native applications, coupled with improved emulation capabilities, positions Windows on ARM for a promising future. This momentum is anticipated to draw both new users and developers to the platform, enriching the overall user experience and expanding computing possibilities.
