Tekken 8 Heihachi Mishima Preview – Experience the Feel of the King of the Iron Fist

Recently, we participated in a Tekken 8 preview centered around the iconic character Heihachi Mishima. The King of the Iron Fist makes a return, despite being supposedly dead, which could be considered among the most Tekken-like occurrences ever. Few believed that a martial artist known for hurling family members off high cliffs could succumb to a mere volcano. However, we won’t divulge the details surrounding his comeback and will focus instead on his gameplay.

One of the key aspects regarding Heihachi Mishima in Tekken 8 is that players new to the game will find it easier to access some of his more potent techniques, while still maintaining the character’s inherent difficulty. Heihachi stands out as one of the most captivating and formidable fighters in video game history, and here are our insights on the King of the Iron Fist.

It’s official: Heihachi Mishima is back in Tekken 8! Contrary to the rumors, his demise has been greatly exaggerated. In fact, he will be available in Early Access on September 30, 2024, at 4 PM PDT, with an official launch on October 3, 2024, at 4 PM PDT.

In an insightful conversation with Michael Murray, a designer for Tekken 8, we discovered that the character has undergone certain changes. While he remains immensely powerful and an exciting technical character, adjustments have been made to enhance his gameplay.

Heihachi has shifted towards a more aggressive playstyle, leaning towards being a rushdown character. Rather than relying solely on his technical martial arts skills, he now aims to overwhelm opponents with sheer strength. He maintains his hard-hitting style but retains the intricate techniques that make him enjoyable to control.

His classic grappling moves are still present, with the Headlock Noogie and Jumping Power Bomb making a return. Additionally, he has experienced a stance modification, which alters the properties of several moves within his arsenal, introducing exciting new possibilities in combat.

Accessing Heihachi Mishima’s Best Moves: The Heat System

In my previous Tekken-related content on YouTube, several viewers critiqued my lack of Electric Wind God Fist usage at the launch of Tekken 8. I must admit, while I cherish the game and have played since its initial arcade release in the U.S., I’m not a dedicated main. This means my inputs for the Electric Wind God Fist were not up to par, which can be a challenging move to execute perfectly.

Fortunately, Tekken 8 introduces a feature where players can successfully execute the Electric Wind God Fist and Electric Thunder God Fist without requiring Perfect Inputs when in Heat Mode. This adjustment simplifies access to these powerful moves for casual players, while seasoned veterans can continue their skilled play outside of Heat Mode. Furthermore, being in Heat Mode enhances the Wind God’s Kamae attack, providing reversal effects against High and Mid attacks, giving a significant advantage to those versed in the Mishima fighting style.

Heihachi Mishima’s Appeal for Casual Players

As a casual player of Tekken 8 and a longtime fan of Heihachi from previous installments, I can confidently say that he feels exceptionally powerful in this iteration. His pressure tactics are formidable, and his juggling and combo sequences are satisfying and manageable with some practice.

What I love most about playing as Heihachi is the relentless pressure he exerts on opponents. A successful hit could easily lead to an opponent’s downfall. While it took some time to master his combo starter, the axe kick launcher, it soon became second nature.

The transition to double-tap forward and back arrow inputs for certain strikes required some adjustments, but I strongly believe that fans of aggressive gameplay will find Heihachi to be incredibly enjoyable.

Conclusion: Heihachi Mishima’s Future in Tekken 8

Mastering Heihachi’s Wind God’s Kamae and employing effective rushdown strategies in Tekken 8 will distinguish proficient players from novices. Though Heihachi presents a moderate challenge for mastery, this is to be expected. He’s returning with an exciting story and significant quality-of-life improvements.

While some may be displeased with his return, I believe they will be in the minority. Similarly, there may be players who criticize the ease of executing the Electric Wind God Fist. However, this feature only activates during Heat Mode, providing balance.

I greatly admire the enhancements the Tekken team has made for Heihachi. He’s powerful, fast, and most importantly, incredibly fun to play. I eagerly anticipate seeing him dominate in tournaments later this year.
