Tekken 8 Director States That Porting to Switch 2 Would Demand Significant Effort

Nintendo Switch 2 owners may find themselves wondering about the possibility of a Tekken 8 port for their console. According to Game Director Katsuhiro Harada, the option isn’t entirely off the table, although it does face significant obstacles. Harada shared insights during his recent conversation with Eurogamer at the Evo event:

“It’s an interesting option, and not totally off the table. But it would require a lot of work on the game to get it running on that hardware. From a business standpoint, the Switch 2 is doing quite well, so it would be a very good business decision if you’re trying to get a bigger audience. But the amount of work that would have to be done on the game makes it not a very easy decision. At this point in time, there are no… (laughs) There is nothing to announce.”

This statement from Harada may come as a surprise to many, especially considering that Tekken 8 is a fighting game powered by Unreal Engine 5, which is compatible with the latest Nintendo console. In fact, more demanding titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077, have already made their way onto the Switch 2 hardware successfully. Bandai Namco may be skeptical about the potential audience on this platform to justify the costs associated with the port. Meanwhile, CAPCOM has taken a different approach, having launched Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2 shortly after its release on June 5, a title that has garnered positive reviews.

In the meantime, Tekken 8 continues to thrive in the gaming universe. During Evo 2025, Bandai Namco made exciting announcements regarding upcoming content, including the release of a new DLC character, Armor King, scheduled for October 13 for Season 2 Character Pass holders and October 16 for all players. Furthermore, fans can look forward to the introduction of a new fighter named Miary Zo from Madagascar, along with a fresh stage entitled Baobab Horizon, expected to debut this winter.
