In a resurgence reminiscent of past trends, smartphone manufacturers are once again prioritizing ultra-thin designs for their devices. Samsung is anticipated to introduce the Galaxy S25 Edge in May, while Apple is set to continue this trend with the launch of the iPhone 17 Air later this year. Joining the ranks of thin smartphone innovators is TECNO, which aims to introduce what it claims is the industry’s slimmest smartphone with its SPARK Slim concept. This device not only emphasizes sleekness but also promises enhanced battery capacity alongside impressive internal specifications.
Anticipated Features and Technology of TECNO’s SPARK Slim
One significant challenge associated with ultra-thin smartphones is the compromise on battery size, often resulting in shorter battery life and potential overheating issues. TECNO appears to be tackling this problem with the SPARK Slim, which is set to make its debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, starting March 3. Remarkably, this smartphone boasts a sleek profile measuring just 5.75mm in thickness.

In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Edge is thicker, with its reported dimensions at 5.84mm. Notably, the SPARK Slim houses a robust 5, 200mAh battery, surpassing the capacity of Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra. Additionally, it features dual 50MP rear cameras, a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with curved edges, a resolution of 1224p, and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. The display boasts an impressive peak brightness of 4, 500 nits and includes a 13MP front-facing camera.

The SPARK Slim features a noticeable camera bump on the back, reflecting the trend towards large camera modules that many consumers appreciate. The battery, while relatively thin at 4.04mm, supports up to 45W fast charging, although TECNO has not disclosed which variant was utilized to enhance the battery’s capacity. It is widely believed that the battery employs silicon-carbon technology, which can bolster capacity without adding significant thickness.

While details regarding the chipset powering the SPARK Slim remain under wraps, TECNO has yet to confirm plans for mass production of the device. The company previously showcased an innovative 10-inch tri-fold smartphone, the Phantom Ultimate 2, which did not reach commercial release. This raises concerns that the SPARK Slim could similarly remain a mere concept presented for media attention, rather than a product set for the market. However, enthusiasts and tech aficionados alike hope that TECNO proves skeptics wrong and moves forward with a launch.
