Enhancing Telemetry in Microsoft Teams for Better Administration
Telemetry plays a crucial role in modern software development and operational management, enabling developers to swiftly identify and resolve issues without needing to rely on end-users for reports. However, like any powerful tool, it carries the risk of misuse if not managed responsibly. To enhance the administrative capabilities and ensure compliance, Microsoft is introducing a valuable new feature for Teams administrators.
New Features for Teams Admins
Teams admins can now access comprehensive audit logs related to screen-sharing sessions via Microsoft Purview. This new functionality will empower administrators to address key inquiries, such as:
- The identities of participants in a screen-sharing session
- Who initiated the screen share
- Key timestamps marking the beginning and end of the sharing session
- Details regarding control requests, including who requested, received, or accepted control
- The identities of those with whom the screen was shared
Accessing Audit Logs in Microsoft Purview
To navigate to these audit logs, admins must sign in with their administrator credentials and follow a few simple steps:
- Click on Audit in the left navigation pane.
- Select New Search.
- Specify the desired timeframes and operation names, such as screenShared.
This allows for effective viewing and even exporting of logs in CSV format to enhance readability and analysis.
Availability and Implications
Microsoft has confirmed that these enhanced audit logs and telemetry features for screen sharing and control functions are now accessible to all Teams admins. This transparency fosters better oversight and will likely improve user experience by allowing prompt responses to any issues that arise during screen-sharing collaborations.
By integrating these robust telemetry capabilities, Microsoft Teams is reinforcing its commitment to secure and effective management practices within its platform.
