Team Group has made significant strides in the SSD market with its latest technology, featuring 3D TLC NAND along with the Phison E28 controller. This combination has led to an impressive claim of 14, 900 MB/s in read speeds for their newest solid-state drive (SSD).
Introduction of the T-Force Z54E PCIe 5.0 SSD
The newest addition to Team Group’s SSD lineup, the T-Force Z54E, stands out as a premier PCIe 5.0 mainstream SSD. This flagship model is designed to provide exceptional sequential read and write speeds, leveraging the advanced PCIe 5.0 interface to offer rapid performance and high power efficiency.

At the heart of the Z54E SSD is the innovative Phison E28 controller, constructed using TSMC’s 6nm technology. Phison claims that this controller can achieve remarkable performance with sequential read speeds of up to 14, 900 MB/s and sequential write speeds reaching 14, 000 MB/s, setting a new benchmark for mainstream storage solutions.

Currently, while many PCIe 5.0 SSDs boast speeds ranging from 10 to 14 GB/s, a few models hint at potential higher throughputs, such as the Samsung 9100 Pro and Kingston FURY Renegade G5, which claim speeds up to 14, 800 MB/s. With an additional 100 MB/s improvement, the Team Group Z54E is positioned as the leader, though it is essential to note that these figures are theoretical, and actual performance can vary significantly based on real-world applications.

Achieving these outstanding speeds is made possible not only by the advanced Phison E28 controller but also due to the 232-layer 3D TLC NAND used in the SSD. However, the actual performance can hinge on various variables, including the specific platform used, cooling solutions, and the type of workload executed. Reports have indicated that certain processors, like the Core Ultra 200S, may reduce PCIe 5.0 SSD performance if overheating occurs. Therefore, Team Group has equipped the Z54E with a proprietary ultra-thin graphene heatsink to counteract thermal throttling.

To facilitate optimal cooling for sustained performance, users may also consider additional cooling methods. The T-Force Z54E PCIe 5.0 SSD will be available in three capacities: 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. The impressive advertised read/write speeds of 14.9/14 GB/s primarily apply to the 2 TB and 4 TB models, while the 1 TB variant is rated slightly lower at 14.9/13.7 GB/s.
