Taye Diggs Shares Admiration for Diddy, Felt ‘Blindsided’ by Rapper’s Arrest

On Thursday, September 26, actor and rapper Taye Diggs shared his thoughts on Diddy’s arrest during his appearance on the Sibling Revelry podcast with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.

In the podcast, he expressed feeling “naive”and “blindsided”by the serious allegations against Sean “Diddy”Combs. Diggs, who has long admired Combs for his rise from humble beginnings, mentioned how the rapper inspired him. He stated,

“He was a hero to me. I loved how he… He didn’t come from much, he started out as a dancer. All the things that I wasn’t, growing up, he was.”

At 53, the Rent star revealed that he had always viewed Combs as a role model until the allegations of abuse against the founder of Bad Boy Records surfaced.

This interview took place following Combs’ September 16 arrest on grave charges including s*x trafficking, conspiracy to commit racketeering, and transporting individuals for pr*stitution.

In the aforementioned podcast, singer Taye Diggs discussed his shock regarding fellow rapper Combs’ arrest, indicating he was unaware of the darker aspects of Combs’ life. He continued with,

“I felt so naive when I heard all that stuff because I was… I don’t know where I was, but all of it blindsided me.”

Diggs stated he was relieved the major accusations against the rapper were finally made public, yet he felt a profound disappointment that Combs hadn’t lived up to the high expectations he had set for him. He described the situation as “kind of double-edged.”

The actor expressed his dissatisfaction upon learning that the person he once idolized was embroiled in such allegations.

As he articulated,

“He had so much confidence and a certain arrogance that I loved and he made being Black cool. I came from a place where we had to ask everything and ‘I’m Black, so of course, I’m going to be treated like this’.”

He added:

“I looked at him and he wore it like, as a badge, you know what I’m saying? I really put him on a pedestal and it was disappointing to see some of what happened. I couldn’t believe it. And I didn’t like that feeling.”

This discussion occurred after Diddy’s arrest on September 16, where he entered a not-guilty plea against the charges, which were rejected by the judge, leading to the rapper being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he awaits trial.

What happened to Diddy?

Diddy was apprehended on severe accusations, including transporting individuals for pr*stitution, conspiracy to commit racketeering, and sex trafficking. A detailed 14-page indictment revealed that Diddy had “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him”for many years during his notorious ‘freak-off’ parties.

Furthermore, the indictment stated:

“For decades, Sean Combs, the defendant, abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his s*xual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct.”

Additionally, as reported by The Guardian on September 17, federal investigators seized the rapper’s properties in Miami and Los Angeles in March 2024 due to ongoing lawsuits against him.

Since Diddy’s arrest, the indictment has been made publicly available online, providing further insights into the raid’s findings. The indictment also mentioned the discovery of nearly one thousand bottles of baby oil at the rapper’s home along with “three defaced AR-15s.”

Despite attempts by Diddy’s legal team to clarify the presence of the baby oil, the rapper has yet to issue a public statement.
