Recent claims by Taiwanese server manufacturers indicate that NVIDIA’s GB200 AI servers are not experiencing issues related to overheating, affirming that production is proceeding smoothly.
NVIDIA’s GB200 AI Servers Encounter Market Hurdles Amid Supply Chain Concerns
Speculation about design flaws in NVIDIA’s GB200 AI servers has gained traction since late 2024. During this period, NVIDIA allegedly restricted initial shipments due to multiple server-related issues. While the company asserted that these problems were addressed, recent analyses have revealed a resurgence of concerns about the GB200 series, leading several major tech firms to scale back orders.
Contrary to these rumors, a report from Taiwan Economic Daily, quoting sources from Taiwanese server manufacturers, dismisses these claims as baseless speculation. The manufacturers questioned the frequency of such rumors, stating, “How many times will the same rumor happen?”They further indicated that production timelines remain unaffected and on track, offering a stark contrast to the negative perceptions surrounding NVIDIA’s GB200 AI servers. It’s worth noting that back in November 2024, similar concerns were raised about NVIDIA’s Blackwell servers due to a design flaw linked to TSMC’s chip interconnect.
High-profile customers such as Microsoft, Amazon, and OpenAI appear to be reducing their GB200 orders, reflecting broader supply chain challenges. Initial plans for Microsoft to deploy over 50,000 GB200 AI cabinets have been significantly scaled back. Additionally, numerous companies are now opting for NVIDIA’s previous-generation Hopper solutions, indicating that the market reception for the Blackwell series is lackluster. NVIDIA may struggle to sell these servers if underlying issues remain unresolved.
The potential impact of the GB200 server flaws on NVIDIA’s revenue remains uncertain. Nonetheless, with the rapid growth of the AI server market, various supply chain complications seem inevitable. Given NVIDIA’s motivation to maintain its leadership in AI technology, it is likely that the company will work diligently to address the GB200 issues swiftly, leveraging its substantial economic and technological resources.
