Syfy and USA Network Cancel Chucky Series Following Season 3

Chucky, the horror-comedy series developed by Don Mancini for Syfy, has concluded its journey with its third season. The announcement came on September 27, 2024, over four months after the season three finale episode titled Final Destination, which aired on May 1, 2024.

The third season of the series was released in two parts, with the initial segment premiering on October 4, 2023, followed by the second part on April 10, 2024. Showrunner Don Mancini expressed his feelings about the cancellation with the following statement:

“I’m heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have.”

In April 2024, Mancini revealed he had pitched an idea for a potential fourth season to the network. He shared updates with The Direct in the same month:

“I think it’s really fun, new, and again, another left turn in terms of what we’ve been doing so far. We don’t know the status of the show yet. So again, fingers crossed that we will get picked up, right?”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the show’s future, Mancini’s enthusiasm inspired fans to advocate for a fourth season through the #RenewChucky fan campaign. Unfortunately, the network opted not to renew the series.

This slasher series serves as a continuation of the Child’s Play film franchise and acts as a sequel to the 2017 film, Cult of Chucky. The storyline follows the infamous Good Guy doll, Chucky, who embarks on a murder spree after being possessed by a notorious serial killer.

In the third season, the malevolent doll finds his way into the most powerful residence in the country, the White House, where he continues his reign of terror against America’s First Family.

The show features Brad Dourif reprising his iconic role as the voice of Chucky, alongside a talented cast that includes Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Jennifer Tilly, Björgvin Arnarson, Christine Elise, Alex Vincent, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Fiona Dourif, and Billy Boyd, among others.

Created by Don Mancini, the series was produced by Mallory Westfall, Hartley Gorenstein, Alex Delyle, Todd Copps, Mitch Engel, and Nick Zigler, while Nick Antosca, Harley Peyton, Alex Hedlund, Jeff Renfroe, and others served as executive producers. Chucky premiered on October 12, 2021, on Syfy and the USA Network simultaneously, receiving positive feedback from both fans and critics alike.

With the cancellation of Chucky, Syfy now has only two scripted series remaining: The Ark and SurrealEstate. The previous scripted series, Resident Alien, transitioned from Syfy to USA Network in 2024, ahead of its fourth season.

In addition, the network is developing a live-action horror series based on Image Comics’ Revival, starring Melanie Scrofano as Dana Cypress, David James Elliott as Sheriff Wayne Cypress, Romy Weltman as Martha ‘Em’ Cypress, and Andy McQueen as CDC scientist Ibrahim Ramin.

Furthermore, USA Network announced in June 2024 plans to adapt John Grisham’s 1995 bestseller, The Rainmaker, into a television series.

Fans can stream all episodes of Chucky on Peacock.
