Sydney Sweeney’s family explored as actress reveals paying her mother’s mortgage

In a March 27 cover story for WhoWhatWear, Sydney Sweeney shared that she had recently paid off her mother’s mortgage.

“I recently paid off my mom’s mortgage. As a kid, I always dreamt of being able to take care of my parents, so that was a really big thing for me to be able to do.”

During her discussion about her family, Sweeney disclosed that they offer her a sense of equilibrium and peacefulness amidst the chaos of Hollywood.

What is Sydney Sweeney’s family background?

The star of Euphoria was born in Spokane, Washington to Lisa Sweeney, a former attorney, and Steven Sweeney, a hospitality worker. In addition to their daughter, Sydney Sweeney, the couple also has a son named Trent.

During a 2023 interview with Variety, Sydney Sweeney disclosed that her parents divorced and filed for bankruptcy while she was getting ready for her roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and Sharp Objects. While her mother stayed in Spokane, her father relocated to a ranch in Mexico where there is no access to internet or cell service.

Additionally, she disclosed that her parents had been a constant source of support as she chased her dreams of becoming an actress, attending countless auditions.

“My parents sacrificed so much to support my dream, and they lost so much during it. I just felt a responsibility to show them it was worth it.”

During an interview with British GQ in November 2022, Sydney discussed the experience of returning to her parents’ home.

“When I go home my family doesn’t understand me or the world I’m in anymore. But then this industry, my home and the place that grounds me is so vastly different to how people live here. I’m in this in-between place where I feel like neither side understands me.”

During an interview with Variety in August 2023, Sydney shared that her mother, Lisa, decided to leave her career in law after the birth of her younger brother and her. Lisa expressed that she couldn’t handle coming home to two little babies and still be mentally stable.

My mom grew up with barely anything. She got her GED (General Education Development Qualification) when she was 16; she worked five jobs to put herself through school; she took care of her brothers; she takes care of everyone. It’s unbelievable seeing where she came from, and being able to show her this world now.”

During her interview with Sunday Today in June 2023, Sydney shared that both her father and grandfather were taken aback when they first watched Euphoria, a raw and intense teen drama.

In addition, she mentioned that her mother frequently visited her on set, so she was familiar with the story. However, her father was not aware of the plot and watched it with his parents without informing Sydney Sweeney.

Despite her busy schedule, Sydney Sweeney shared in her recent interview with WhoWhatWear that she prioritizes spending time with her family. She makes sure to catch up with her cousins and even makes trips back home whenever possible.

Sydney Sweeney rose to fame for her performances in The White Lotus and Euphoria, which both earned her Emmy nominations. Her most recent project, a horror-drama film titled Immaculate, was released in March 2024.
