Switch 2 Dock Incompatibility with HDMI Cable and AC Adapter

Nintendo Switch 2: Accessory and Game Compatibility Insights

Nintendo has recently updated its pages detailing accessory and game compatibility for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Notably, several existing Switch peripherals, such as the HDMI cable and AC adapter, will not be functional with the new dock. Additionally, the Switch 2 will exclusively require microSD Express cards and will support older controller models. However, it is essential to note that numerous streaming service applications will also be incompatible with the new system.

AC Adapter and HDMI Cable Compatibility

The original Switch AC adapter can indeed be connected to the Switch 2, but its use is limited. Users must plug the adapter directly into the console; it will not function when connected through the dock for TV mode, with this limitation attributed to changes in power output. Therefore, a dedicated new AC adapter will be necessary for use with the new dock.

Furthermore, regarding the HDMI cable, Nintendo states that the original HDMI cable will not function with the Switch 2 due to a difference in technical standards. Users are advised to utilize the HDMI cable specifically designed for the Switch 2 to ensure optimal performance.

Dock and Adjustable Charging Stand Limitations

In addition to the aforementioned peripherals, older docks will not be compatible with the new Switch console. Nintendo confirmed that both the original dock and the one designed for the OLED model are not suitable for use with the Switch 2. It is imperative to use a officially designated Switch 2 dock to function with this new system.

Streaming Services Unavailable on Switch 2

For streaming enthusiasts, it’s important to note that there are five applications that will be incompatible with the Switch 2. The affected services include:

  • Abema
  • Crunchyroll
  • Hulu
  • InkyPen
  • Niconico

Game Compatibility and Patches

Nintendo has also provided official documentation listing games that will receive necessary patches to remain operational with the Switch 2, regardless of any compatibility issues that may arise. Additional details regarding potential startup issues are also documented for user awareness.

The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, promising a mix of compatibility with select Switch accessories and game titles.
