The highly anticipated episode 5 of Survivor 47 made its debut on CBS on October 16, featuring contestants competing on the stunning Mamanuca Islands for a shot at the grand prize. Among the participants was Anika Dhar, part of the Gata team, who found herself in a precarious position as her team faced elimination.
As the five-member team gathered to deliberate on who to vote out, Anika was under the impression that she had the support of her allies. Despite her confidence, the announcement by Survivor host Jeff Probst that she was the one being sent home left her stunned. Anika immediately turned to her teammates in search of clarification.
After her unexpected exit, Anika offered insights into her experience in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on October 17, revealing the conflicting emotions she experienced when her name was called for elimination.
She recounted the feelings of betrayal from her team, particularly directed toward Sam Phalen, who Anika believed perceived her as a threat. She expressed:
“It seemed that as closer he [Sam] got to me, and the more he got to know my intelligence and who I am as a person, the more he seemed threatened by me.”
Anika Dhar’s Reaction to Sam’s Betrayal on Survivor 47
During the climactic moment when Jeff Probst revealed her team’s decision, Anika’s shock was evident. She looked to her Gata teammates in disbelief, grappling with the reality of their betrayal.
When Anika confronted her friend Rachel LaMont about the vote, Rachel claimed she was unaware of any plans against Anika. However, Sam raised his hand when asked who orchestrated the move, prompting Andy to awkwardly admit that he shared some of the blame along with Sierra Wright.
In her conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Anika did not hold back her feelings regarding Sam’s actions, stating she felt the most anger directed at him following her elimination.
As she exited the Tribal Council, tears streamed down her face, compounded by the sight of Sam smiling in response to her departure.
Discussing the fallout from this incident, Anika revealed that Sam’s betrayal cut the deepest because they had developed what she viewed as a sibling-like bond during their time in the competition. She elaborated on their relationship:
“You see us running every single challenge together. You see us finding the idol together. Anytime we’re having any discussions, whether it’s him rapping and I’m right next to him, supporting him, or whether it’s me asking him about the fruit. Even the rope cutting situation, it really felt brother and sister out there and I got to know him so well.”
She also noted that whenever conflicts arose, they would quickly reconcile and return to their playful dynamic. As their camaraderie grew, so did Anika’s trust in Sam; she recognized his intelligence and considered him an asset in the game.
However, she later reflected that his increasing familiarity with her might have fostered feelings of insecurity within Sam. She recalled:
“I did not know that. I didn’t feel that out there. So that’s why I think when he was so happy to shoot up that, ‘Hey, I’m working against you’ — that’s the one that stung the most. And then obviously watching it back now, it stings with Sierra because we had that girl alliance.”
