Surprise Steam Update Released for Watch Dogs Game

Overview

  • Watch Dogs, the 2014 action-adventure game, has now activated achievements on Steam following a recent update.
  • This release marks the latest addition to Ubisoft’s trend of enabling achievements for its catalog on Steam.
  • Previously, popular titles such as Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Far Cry 5 also received similar updates for achievement support.

Watch Dogs has surprisingly updated its status on Steam, introducing a long-awaited achievement feature for this eleven-year-old game. Originally launched for numerous platforms including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC in 2014, this milestone finally meets the demands of fans who have been yearning for achievements in the Steam version.

Until recently, Ubisoft had primarily directed PC players to its proprietary platform, Ubisoft Connect, when it came to game downloads and installations. However, following the announcement of the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft declared that it would also start releasing its games on Steam on their launch day. Since this pivotal shift, the developer has actively sought to retroactively add Steam achievements to several titles, including well-known games like Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6, along with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. With the inclusion of Watch Dogs, the studio shows no signs of halting this trend.

Ubisoft Enhances Watch Dogs with Steam Achievements

Reddit user Guineaa, Watch Dogs has officially joined the ranks of Ubisoft titles featuring Steam achievements. The game’s dedicated Steam page lists a total of 49 achievements for players to pursue, ranging from evading a level 5 police alert to finishing various storyline chapters. This pivotal update marks the first occasion that a game in the Watch Dogs series boasts achievements on Steam, leading to speculation about whether its sequels, Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs Legion, will follow suit soon, as other franchises have seen the same gradual integration.

The anticipated release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows seems to represent a significant transformation for Ubisoft. This title will not only restore Ubisoft’s commitment to day-one Steam releases but also reflects the studio’s efforts to refine the game following multiple delays. Originally set for a November 2024 launch, the game’s release has now been postponed to February 2025, with a further delay causing it to be rescheduled to March 20, 2025.

Additionally, while Ubisoft continually enhances legacy titles with Steam achievements, they have also recently announced a substantial update for Far Cry New Dawn tailored for current-generation consoles. In January, the studio surprised its audience with a patch for the game that introduced 60 FPS support on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Amid rumors of potential financial challenges and ongoing layoffs, Ubisoft appears committed to satisfying its community as they await eagerly for future game releases.
