Strategies to Locate and Conquer the Kabukimono in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Kabukimono, a band of troublesome ronin, play a significant role in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.To complete an extensive side quest, players must locate and eliminate all members scattered throughout Settsu.

To start your quest, head to the Nishinomiya Shrine, located to the west of Amagasaki. Here, you’ll encounter a priest at the entrance, attempting to console a distressed child. He reveals the ongoing chaos caused by the Kabukimono and expresses his desire for some resolution.

The priest will provide hints regarding the locations of most Kabukimono members, whom you can target in any sequence. For optimal efficiency, I recommend addressing them from weakest to strongest.

How to Find and Defeat the Ghost General Kabukimono

The Ghost General ranks as the simplest of the Kabukimono targets. You can find him wandering around the Sakai port, interacting with local merchants. Listen carefully to the townsfolk discussing his notorious habit of pilfering food.

This notoriety, combined with his limited protection, makes him an easy target. You’ll often spot him close to the water, generally while his bodyguard is otherwise occupied. If you can maintain stealth, swim up close or sneak out from behind to ambush him. You will need to engage him in a fight to deplete his health completely. Once defeated, make your escape by diving into the ocean.

How to Find and Defeat the Grave Dancer

The Grave Dancer is another relatively simple target within the Kabukimono faction. You can find him near the Sumiyoshi Shrine in the southeast of Osaka. Much like the Ghost General, he is only accompanied by one bodyguard, making him publicly accessible.

Your best strategy is to scale the shrine’s buildings and strike from above. While your initial assassination will not eliminate him, it will significantly reduce his health. With just one bodyguard and a diminished health bar, confronting him will be a straightforward affair.

How to Find and Defeat Ember

The clues about Ember can be somewhat confusing, suggesting he is southwest of Osaka Castle. In reality, he is situated within the city, to the west, close to the southern bridge that leads to the Kojo Ruins. Beware, this area is heavily guarded, and you’ll be attacked immediately upon entry.

The good news is that you can access higher ground by climbing two straw awnings nearby – one to the east and another to the south. Note that Ember and his guards are located next to explosive urns. By throwing a kunai at these urns, you can inflict considerable damage. After the explosion, you may need to engage him directly, but a significant portion of his health will already be depleted.

How to Find and Defeat Big Sueki

Facing Big Sueki marks the beginning of genuine challenge in your Kabukimono quest. He resides in a secluded garden in Muko Post Town, located north of Amagasaki. Be cautious, as this garden is crowded with his compatriots, making a frontal assault dangerous.

For a safer approach, enter through the adjacent building and navigate to the area behind it. You’ll find a gap in the fence that leads you into the garden’s shrubbery where you can hide. From this vantage point, execute a sneak attack on Big Sueki. While this will not take him out instantly, it will trigger a fight against his group. Utilize smoke bombs for distraction, prioritize Sueki, and withdraw once you dispatch him.

How to Find and Defeat Chief Cuckoo

Chief Cuckoo is the most formidable member of the Kabukimono, located in the heavily fortified Katano Oil Trading area, southwest of Katano Castle. The challenges posed by his numerous guards can make this encounter particularly difficult.

If you have Yasuke in your party, consider a more aggressive approach. His higher defense may allow for a frontal engagement. Alternatively, if you aim for stealth, consider honing your kunai skills to enhance damage from a distance. Smoke bombs can serve as effective distractions. If you’re overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to retreat and regroup before striking again.

How to Find and Defeat the Final Three Kabukimono

Once you’ve eliminated the earlier targets, you can finally access the remaining three Kabukimono. Return to the Nishinomiya Shrine and leave a message to attract this trio. You can opt to confront them one by one or lure them all into a single location—a method I strongly recommend for efficiency.

However, patience is crucial; these three enemies are at level 23 and located in Harima, which can be challenging with lower levels. When you reach the appropriate level, approach Harima from Amagasaki, following the coastal route towards Kakogawa Estuary, and then head north to cross into the Estuary island. You’ll spot the Takagi Otsuka Fort, with the Kabukimono camp situated to its southeast.

To infiltrate their campsite, seek out a rock formation on the east side that allows you to scale the structure and leap onto a building’s roof. Drop down stealthily between the building and the fence, then make your way around to position yourself behind an adjacent building. This vantage lets you view your targets while providing the perfect angle to attack an explosive urn nearby with a kunai—an effective strategy to inflict damage before the fight begins.

Amidst the ensuing chaos, employ other tools such as additional kunai or smoke bombs to further confuse your adversaries and mitigate their numbers without drawing too much attention. Despite their numerical advantage, this encounter often proves more manageable than anticipated. Once you’ve successfully defeated all three, return to the priest who initiated your quest to collect your well-deserved rewards.
