Strategies to Defeat Petank in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guide

If you’ve stumbled upon a Petank in your journey, you’re in for an interesting but manageable challenge. These metallic foes may not appear overly threatening, yet their ability to flee after a limited number of turns can complicate encounters. Nevertheless, engaging them is worthwhile, as defeating Petanks yields valuable loot that enhances your expeditioners’ weapons and attributes.

Familiarity with other games, such as Persona 4’s Wealth Hands or Trotters from Honkai Star Rail, might give you an edge in understanding the role of Petanks in Clair Obscur. These resilient enemies require quick thinking to secure your rewards before they make their escape.

Strategies for Defeating Petank in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Your initial encounter with a Petank will likely occur in Ancient Sanctuary during Act 1 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. They are positioned just past the Entrance fast-travel flag. Once you approach, be prepared to chase, as these creatures are notably quicker than your expedition team.

To initiate a battle, simply rushing after the Petank won’t suffice. Instead, look for a nearby platform adorned with glowing blue sigils.Chase the Petank onto this platform to trigger the encounter. Once it’s on the platform, you’ll be able to launch an attack and start the battle.

As you engage in combat, keep in mind that you have a finite number of turns to defeat the Petank before it escapes. Should it flee, you can rest at a nearby Expedition Flag to prompt its respawn. Subsequent encounters with Petanks in Ancient Sanctuary will become progressively more challenging as you advance through the story of Clair Obscur.

It’s crucial to note that the glowing orb inside the Petank’s shell is not its weak point. Therefore, refrain from wasting your shots (and Action Points) targeting it. Instead, focus on effectively managing your Action Points while utilizing a blend of your expeditioners’ most formidable attacks to diminish the Petank’s health before it can flee. In addition, executing successful parries allows you to capitalize on counterattacks, increasing your chances of victory.

Utilize Gustave’s Lumiere Assault or any multi-hit attacks from your characters to quickly eliminate any shields the Petank may deploy. The advantage of using Lumiere Assault lies in its ability to generate Overcharge stacks simultaneously. If you possess any Pictos that restore Action Points, equipping those can prove beneficial, allowing Gustave to capitalize on the Overcharge abilities swiftly.

Continue this strategy while leveraging Lune and Maelle’s strongest attacks whenever possible. The success of your battle against a Petank may hinge on the number of critical hits you manage to land, so don’t be discouraged if it takes a few tries to succeed.

Focus on equipping items that enhance your critical hit rate or boost Action Point recovery. This equipment becomes increasingly important as the Petanks you face grow more formidable throughout your journey in Clair Obscur.
