Strategies to Defeat Heismay in Metaphor ReFantazio

In the game Metaphor ReFantazio, Heismay stands out as a formidable and cunning adversary. Players face him in two separate battles, which occur almost consecutively. Our primary focus will be on the second encounter, which is crucial for progression. Nonetheless, we will also share a tip to simplify the initial confrontation. During the first battle, your objective is merely to inflict damage and ensure your survival, while the second battle aims for outright victory following pivotal cutscenes.

It’s already known that Heismay will eventually join your team, and this mission serves to unveil the reasons behind his inclusion. However, the pressing matter at hand is to defeat him in combat. Here’s what you should keep in mind.

Throughout both encounters with Heismay in Metaphor ReFantazio, this agile foe utilizes a Clone Art. He generates three clones, which grants him additional strikes on each turn they remain active. In our attempts, we utilized Hero (Gunner), Strohl (Warrior), and Hulkenberg (Knight). Exercise caution, as Heismay’s melee strikes can hit Gunners particularly hard.

The key to winning is to observe the shadows. When Heismay deploys his clones in Metaphor ReFantazio, the original has a shadow, while the clones do not. Aim for the one casting a shadow, making the fight significantly more manageable. Additionally, keep Hulkenberg using Knight’s Proclamation every turn, as this will divert Heismay’s attacks towards her due to the taunting effect, allowing her to resist his melee strikes.

Both the melee attacks and his formidable Dark Sword strikes will be absorbed by Hulkenberg, simplifying the battle immensely. Be cautious, however, as this may initiate the “Forget” status effect. Even if searching for shadows is new to you, the game will provide guidance, and eventually, Gallica will point out the method directly. It took us a bit to catch on, frankly.

With the fight now under control, I had Strohl frequently use Slicer while the Gunner employed regular attacks and Poison Shot. While it did not successfully poison Heismay, critical hits occurred frequently and proved beneficial overall. If you mistakenly hit the incorrect clone, be prepared for a flurry of his melee attacks alongside a Sand Throw move that will diminish your team’s hit and evasion rates.

This fight essentially revolves around attrition, as you chip away at Heismay’s health while consistently targeting the right clone. Triumphing in this encounter rewards your party with 1,050 EXP, 300 A-EXP, 20 MAG, 2,500 Money, Speed Incense, and Sandsilk Gloves.

Metaphor ReFantazio launched on October 11, 2024, and is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
