Strategies to Conquer Everdark Fissure in the Fog of Nightreign

The Everdark Sovereign variant of Fissure in the Fog has made its debut in Elden Ring Nightreign, presenting players with the thrilling challenge of confronting an upgraded ice dragon. True to the evolving nature of Everdark bosses, the Everdark Fissure in the Fog introduces a brand new phase, complete with fresh attacks and increased opportunities to inflict damage on you and your fellow Nightfarers.

This battle perfectly balances difficulty and drama, and the Everdark version raises the stakes even higher. To prepare you for this monumental fight, here’s a comprehensive guide on defeating the Everdark Fissure in the Fog in Nightreign.

Strategies for Defeating the Everdark Fissure in the Fog

As you embark on your journey to vanquish the Everdark Fissure in the Fog in Elden Ring Nightreign, there are essential strategies to remember that can significantly enhance your chances of success. Firstly, take advantage of the Shifting Earth event in the Mountaintops, which grants valuable buffs crucial for the confrontation with Fissure in the Fog, as well as understanding the boss’s weaknesses and resistances.

From this point forward, we will refer to Fissure in the Fog as Caligo.

Key Considerations for Your Expedition

  • Activate the Shifting Earth event: This event is key, providing rewards and passive effects that enhance your Frostbite resistance and boost your effectiveness against dragons, making it indispensable for taking down Caligo.
  • Exploit Caligo’s Fire Weakness: Fire is Caligo’s main vulnerability. Equip a Relic that adds Fire damage to your weapon or visit Fire camps or churches in Limveld to gain an advantage.
  • Beware of Resistance: Caligo shows resistance to Lightning, Magic, Holy, Frostbite, and Sleep attacks. It is advisable to avoid these types of damage altogether.
  • Choose appropriate Nightfarers: Opt for nimble allies or those capable of ranged attacks. Wylder with his hook and Fire-enhanced Ultimate, Duchess with Frostbite-boosting Relics, and Ironeye for stance damage and Item Discovery are all solid choices.
  • Stay Under Caligo: Attack Caligo’s legs to minimize damage. Most of her strikes target forward and backward areas, making direct attacks from beneath her the safest strategy—just be ready to dodge her roar and breath attacks.
  • Level Up to 15: Given the enhanced nature of this fight, ensure you and your team are at least level 15 with upgraded gear. Defeating other bosses in the Mountaintops and Limveld’s castle provides a solid ground for leveling up, but requires meticulous time management.

The Shifting Earth event on the Mountaintops is invaluable for overcoming Caligo in Nightreign. The area reward significantly boosts your Frostbite resistance and adds to your attack power when in a Frostbite environment, both of which are beneficial during the battle with Caligo.

Additionally, the region’s bosses—including trolls, demi-humans, and ice dragons—often drop multiple passive effects that help combat Frostbite, serving as great preparation for your impending clash with Caligo.

When Caligo’s HP drops to around 50-60%, she envelops herself in a purple mist. At this stage, maintain your distance; she will unleash a blast, marking the beginning of her third phase, during which she introduces new attacks, including her once blue clouds of Frostbite transformed into a threatening purple hue.

Importantly, during this third phase, Caligo’s icy armor can be shattered, enabling her to take increased damage. Focus your efforts on breaking this armor whenever she regenerates it throughout the encounter!

New Attacks and How to Counter Them

  • Tornadoes: Keep an eye on Caligo’s head for purple glowing. Shortly after, she will unleash a mighty blast that conjures a widespread tornado around her. Similar to the Everdark Gaping Jaws encounter, positioning yourself inside the tornado is crucial to avoid damage, but you can also choose to stay outside until it dissipates if needed.
  • Projectile Rocks: Caligo’s wings will summon these familiar attacks. In her third phase, expect a higher number of rocks to be flung your way for an extended duration. These can be dodged effectively, but watch for spins that cause rocks to explode shortly upon impact.
  • Projectile Icicles: In addition to rocks, expect Caligo to throw purple icicles now. These will detonate seconds after they land, creating dangerous piles that should be avoided until they clear.
  • Freezing Breath: While not new, her Freezing Breath becomes increasingly potent in this final phase. Avoid being directly beneath her when she uses this attack, and steer clear of any icicles left in the wake of her breath.

If you leverage the buffs provided by the Mountaintops and secure Fire-inflicting weapons while leveling up, defeating the Fissure in the Fog becomes much less frustrating than facing either the Everdark Gaping Jaws or Everdark Augur.
