The Battle of Xinye in Dynasty Warriors Origins
In the engaging storyline of *Dynasty Warriors Origins*, players encounter the historic Battle of Xinye within the narrative of Liu Bei’s campaign. This pivotal battle can be traced back to the *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*, where Xu Shu played a crucial role by assisting Liu Bei’s forces in overcoming the formidable Eight Gates Formation established by Cao Cao’s generals.
Historical Accuracy and Gameplay Mechanics
While the game captures many aspects of the original epic, it does fall short in character representation, notably with the omission of Commander Cao Ren. Nevertheless, Omega Force has done commendable work in illustrating the complex strategies associated with this formation. Our focus, however, is to assist players in effectively dismantling this elaborate setup.
Deciphering the Eight Gates Formation
Initially, players must conquer all bases situated in the hilly region, disregarding unrescuable generic allies who recklessly engage with the enemy. Following this, it’s time to approach the mystifying Eight Gates Formation. Your strategist, Xu Shu, will prompt you to identify key differences among the multiple gates, but distinguishing them may prove challenging without assistance.
Utilizing the Eyes of the Sacred Bird
Players should remember that Liu Bei’s exclusive ability, the Eyes of the Sacred Bird, is essential in this phase. By holding down the L2 or Left Trigger button, you can reveal a visual clue indicating the correct entry gate.
As depicted in the screenshot above, you will find indications of the correct path. If you’re still unsure, inspecting each gate while activating the Eyes feature will help confirm your choice. The shimmering flags, accompanied by the sound of a strong wind, signify the right entryway.
Engaging within the Formation
Once you confidently enter the correct gate, you should be able to eliminate enemy officers with minimal damage. After clearing the area, Xu Shu will instruct you to exit the formation. The opposing strategist will attempt to re-establish the formation, but remain consistent in your approach to identify the correct gate. Complete this process three times to achieve a decisive victory in the Battle of Xinye.
Additional Objectives During the Battle
It’s worth noting that a mini-event will occur at the northern portion of the map after you successfully dismantle the formation for the second and third time. You will encounter a new ally reinforcement who has just arrived; however, it is advisable to heed the ally’s advice and refrain from engaging with impending foes until after you’ve completed your objective of dismantling the Eight Gates Formation.
