In the realm of Elden Ring Nightreign, players currently have the opportunity to face off against eight distinct Nightlords, each presenting its own unique challenges and levels of difficulty. Among these formidable foes, Augur, also known as Maris, Fathom of Night, stands out as one of the more manageable encounters. This battle primarily tests your patience rather than your combat prowess.
However, coming unprepared can turn this challenge into a substantial threat. Augur is a highly agile boss, frequently flying around the arena, which can prove troublesome for players relying solely on melee attacks. To help you approach this encounter effectively, here is a comprehensive guide on defeating Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Strategies for Defeating Augur
If you’re gearing up to confront Augur at the conclusion of your next Expedition in Nightreign, it’s crucial to gather information during your looting phase. Familiarizing yourself with the Nightlord’s vulnerabilities will enable you to seek out appropriate gear, passive effects, and Dormant Powers. This preparation can significantly streamline the final battle.
Key considerations include:
- Augur is particularly vulnerable to Lightning damage. Therefore, bringing along Lightning-affinity weapons, Lightning Pots, or Lightning Grease is advisable.
- Expect Physical and Sleep damage from Augur, making it wise to equip items that bolster your Resistance to these types of damage.
- Given Augur’s aerial maneuvers, it is highly recommended that every member of your team takes along a bow. If someone on your team plays as Ironeye, that’s a bonus. While it’s possible to complete the encounter without ranged weaponry, utilizing bows significantly expedites the fight.
- You can also damage Augur by attacking the tentacles it spawns. If you are engaged in melee combat, focusing on these tentacles can help, but remember that dealing direct damage to Augur typically yields greater results.
To defeat Augur with greater efficiency, ensure that at least two, if not all three, members of your party are equipped with bows or some form of ranged spells. Since Augur often spends time in the air, melee players might find themselves mostly dodging rather than attacking, making bows essential for consistently whittling down Augur’s health.
During the initial phase of the battle, be aware of Augur’s various attacks and how best to counter them:
- Jellyfish Explosives: Augur releases multiple purple Jellyfish into the arena that explode upon proximity to players. You can lure them away and dodge as they detonate.
- Waves: Augur sends out damaging water waves. Evade them by dodging sideways or rolling through them.
- Divebomb: Augur may dive toward players, delivering a powerful blow that knocks them back. Staying out of its descent path is crucial.
- Naptime: Sometimes, Augur will curl up on the ground, building up Sleep effects on your team. Move away quickly to avoid accumulating Sleep status, or strike Augur to interrupt this attack.
- Teardrop: Augur drops lilac teardrops from the sky. Ensure to destroy these with your bows before they hit the ground, as they explode and induce Sleep, which can spell disaster for your Expedition.
Once Augur’s health falls to around 50%, the battle enters its second phase. While the moveset remains largely unchanged, Augur becomes more aggressive:
- Augur’s initial phase attacks persist, but with expanded range and increased frequency.
- Tentacles: Augur summons large tentacles similar in nature to those seen in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Melee players can focus on these to damage Augur indirectly, while ranged players should avoid striking in close proximity to avoid being overwhelmed.
Overall, Augur poses a relatively straightforward challenge. While their attacks are not swift, the danger lies in the potential to induce Sleep among your team members. With a well-prepared approach, awareness of teardrops and Augur’s napping phase, and the right weaponry ready to hand, you can overcome this Nightlord. Remember, the primary hurdle in this battle is maintaining your patience!
