Stranger Things Actor Linked to Significant Marvel Cinematic Universe Role

Overview

  • Rumors are swirling about a Stranger Things star potentially joining the MCU’s upcoming X-Men film.
  • The upcoming sixth Avengers installment may pave the way for the inclusion of X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been renowned for enlisting prominent actors from the entertainment industry to portray beloved comic book characters. As the MCU approaches the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, a star from Stranger Things is reportedly being considered for a significant role within this expansive universe.

Currently navigating Phase 5 with films like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Fantastic Four: First Steps lined up, the MCU is also gearing up for two major Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These films are expected to culminate the Multiverse Saga and transition the franchise into a new era, one that will likely introduce mutants and culminate in a fresh X-Men movie. Since acquiring 20th Century Fox, Disney has gained the rights to the X-Men characters, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige indicating a strong intent to welcome them into the MCU.

With excitement brewing for the new X-Men lineup, industry insider Jeff Sneider disclosed on his podcast that Sadie Sink, renowned for her role as Max in Stranger Things, is a contender for the iconic character of Jean Grey, also known as the Dark Phoenix. Previously portrayed by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner in earlier X-Men iterations, the character’s legacy adds to the significance of this casting news. Sink’s impressive portfolio also includes performances in The Whale with Brendan Fraser, Netflix’s Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Taylor Swift’s short film All Too Well.

While details surrounding Sink’s involvement remain unclear—whether she has auditioned for the role, received an offer, or is still under consideration—the discussion is generating substantial buzz among fans.

Introduction of X-Men into the MCU

The MCU’s forthcoming X-Men film has not yet secured a director or confirmed a release date, indicating that developments are still in their infancy. Consequently, any casting rumors should be approached with caution until they gain official confirmation. It’s anticipated that the X-Men will emerge prominently in the MCU following Avengers: Secret Wars. Additionally, there is speculation that the sixth Avengers film may lay the groundwork for their introduction, as Feige asserted earlier this year that “the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men.”

Recently, some mutants were subtly incorporated into the MCU through Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their roles. However, these characters remain within a distinct segment of the Multiverse, separate from the main timeline. It is conceivable that Avengers: Secret Wars could alter this landscape, potentially aligning the Avengers and X-Men within the same reality for the first time in the MCU. As anticipation mounts, audiences are eager to see who will step into the roles of these legendary characters in the new cinematic landscape.
