Stoic Provides Towerborne Development Update; Matchmaking Fixes Are Top Priority

Towerborne, the highly anticipated side-scrolling action-RPG from Stoic and Xbox Game Studios, recently launched in Early Access on Steam, just over a week ago. Following its launch, the development team released the first hot fix aimed at addressing initial feedback from early Steam players. Stoic has now shared a comprehensive developer update outlining the game’s current status and future plans for updates.

In a recent post on the game’s Steam page, Daniel McLaren, the game director at Stoic, acknowledged that the most significant challenge facing Towerborne is its matchmaking system. The team has opted to disable matchmaking for the game’s Discovery tiles temporarily, utilizing it solely for the Venture tiles for now. Despite this, the feature continues to experience functionality issues. McLaren stated:

We fully recognize that “getting into a group and playing with others”isn’t meeting expectations. Based on your feedback, we have prioritized the development of a Party Finder system that will enable players to connect with others more easily. Unfortunately, this task is quite extensive and will take several weeks to build, test, and implement, but it has become our top priority. After the Party Finder is live, we plan to enhance our matchmaking system further to improve group connectivity.

Additionally, Stoic is working on allowing Towerborne players to rebind their keyboard keys through an editable file. While the ultimate aim is to integrate this feature within the game itself, there is currently no timeline for its implementation.

The development update also touches on other important topics, including plans for a progression wipe prior to the official game launch, strategies for adding more content, and when players can expect an official game roadmap. McLaren remarked:

We are dedicated to listening to your feedback and enhancing this game daily. It’s been a chaotic start, but as we settle into our development rhythm, we hope you continue to enjoy the superior warclub because that’s evidently the best wea… uh… what I meant to convey is that we hope you will keep enjoying the world of Towerborne!

Towerborne is set to launch for Windows PC and Xbox in 2025 and will transition to a free-to-play model later that year once it reaches its 1.0 version.
