Getting Started with Apple’s Invites App
First things first, the Apple Invites app is not pre-installed on iPhones or iPads. You’ll need to download it from the App Store. To utilize the app, an iCloud+ subscription is necessary, along with a device running iOS 18 or earlier.
This requirement may seem a bit inconvenient; however, it’s practical since the invitations you create will be stored in the cloud, which can consume some device storage. If you’re not keen on using your iPhone, you can access the app’s features directly via the web on your PC or another device, no additional downloads required.
Crafting Your Event Invitation with Apple Invites
Launch the Invites app on your iPhone and tap the + icon located in the top right corner.
Start by selecting the Add Background option to choose a backdrop for your event. This function is a recent addition aimed at enhancing your creative process.
Explore the background choices available, or opt to use your own photos by accessing your camera roll or capturing a new image. Adjust the background by selecting Edit Background ➔ Adjust Background, and modify it to your desire.
Next, click on the Event Title field to name your event, choosing from a variety of stylish fonts offered by the app.
Proceed to add the Date and Time as well as the Location of your gathering by tapping on each respective field and entering the details.
If you’d like, you can include an event description to inform your guests about what to expect and suggest any items they might bring along for the occasion.
Based on your event type, the app cleverly generates relevant details for you, such as a Weather card that integrates forecasts from the Weather app, ensuring guests are prepared for the day.
Additionally, the app presents the event location on a map, facilitating easy access for your guests. A notable feature allows you to create a Shared Album where attendees with iOS devices can upload images from the event.
You can also incorporate links into your invitation—for example, linking to a beach resort’s website to ensure guests have all the information they need. Moreover, if you and your friends use Apple Music, you can easily create a Shared Playlist for the event, allowing everyone to contribute their favorite tracks.
Finalizing and Sharing Your Invitation
After inputting all the details, it’s time to send out your invitation. Notably, guests do not require an Apple account or device to respond.
Start by selecting the Preview option to review your invitation layout.
Ensure everything looks perfect, and then click Next.
On the subsequent screen, choose how you would like to share the invite link. For guests with iOS devices, you can send it via Messages. Other options include sharing through email or copying and pasting the link into any application you prefer.
If maintaining exclusivity is crucial, activate the Approve Guests feature. Every time a guest RSVPs, you will receive a notification for their approval. Alternatively, you can send a unique, one-time link to an individual guest not in your contacts, while still allowing access to others from your contact list.
How to View and RSVP to an Invite
Clicking an Apple Invites link directs you to an iCloud page on your browser. Enter your email address or sign in with your Apple account if you have one.
A verification code will be sent to your provided email. If the host enabled the Approve Guests feature, entering this code sends a request to them for permission to view the event.
The host can check the event page on their device and tap the 1 Access Request button that appears at the top.
To grant permission, they can select the green tick button at the bottom.
Returning to the guest’s device, an email will confirm they can now view the event. Refresh the iCloud page in your browser to see the event overview.
Once there, guests can swipe to the top and tap Going if they wish to attend. They also have the option to respond with Not Going or Maybe.
If a guest opts to attend, they can leave a note and click the Confirm button to finalize their RSVP.
The new attendee and their response will be reflected in the Guests card on the event page.
Adding Events to Your Calendar on iPhone
Once you’ve created your event in the Invites app, you can conveniently add it to your calendar to ensure it’s on your radar.
Open the specific event in the Invites app and tap the calendar icon in the upper right corner.
Adjust any parameters as necessary, select the calendar type for your event, and hit the Add button at the top.
The Invites app will create a calendar event for you, complete with a link back to the original invite. Be sure to double-check the final invite details, as some information, like the event duration, may change in the process.
Creating Event Invites on a PC
As previously outlined, creating event invites can also be accomplished via the web using your PC. Simply navigate to the iCloud page and log in with your Apple ID.
This syncs your devices, allowing you to access invites created on your iPhone from your PC and vice versa. To add a new invite, click the New Event button.
Setting up your invite will mirror the iPhone process, though you will view it in landscape mode instead of portrait.
