Minecraft is primarily under Microsoft’s ownership, as Mojang Studios, which developed this sandbox game, is a subsidiary of the tech giant. This means that the various editions including Java, Bedrock, and even Education are only available through the Microsoft Store on Windows, leaving out one of the most famous gaming platforms, Steam.
Nonetheless, there is a way to acquire both the Minecraft Launcher and Bedrock Edition on Steam.
How to Add Minecraft to Your Steam Library
1) Obtain and Install UWPHook
Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Minecraft, the only method to install the game on Windows has been through the Microsoft Store. While Steam permits the addition of third-party games to its library, it’s different for Minecraft because Microsoft’s applications are not usually visible on this platform.
As a workaround, the gaming community has developed an application called UWPHook, which allows users to add Microsoft apps like Minecraft to Steam.
To begin, search for UWPHook online and download it from GitHub. Once on the GitHub page, look for the “Release”button to access the latest version. From there, you can download the UWPHook.exe file, which you can then run directly.
2) Use UWPHook to Port Minecraft Launcher and Bedrock Edition
Once you open the UWPHook application, you will find the options for both the Minecraft Launcher and the game for Windows. Check the boxes next to both options and then select “Export selected apps to Steam.”
3) Restart Steam and Verify the Addition of the Game
If the steps were executed correctly, you will find both the Minecraft Launcher and Bedrock Edition in your Steam Library. You can launch the game using Steam to access either the Java or Bedrock Edition. It’s important to note that Java Edition isn’t an. exe file, which means it requires the launcher to be operational within the Steam environment.
