The Dark Brotherhood stands out as one of the most renowned factions in the Elder Scrolls universe. Known for operating in the shadows, this clandestine group of assassins is infamous for accepting contracts to eliminate targets—all in the name of their dark patron, the Dread Father, known as Sithis.
In the latest release of Oblivion Remastered, players have the opportunity to join the Dark Brotherhood, but first, you must prove your commitment to their cause.
It’s important to note that the Dark Brotherhood is framed as an “evil” faction within the game. Engaging in the activities required for their questline is deemed illegal, leading to increased bounties from city guards if you are apprehended during your assignments. Additionally, participation with the Dark Brotherhood will elevate your Infamy—a hidden metric in the game that records your nefarious actions. With enough Infamy, you may find yourself shunned by the Nine Divines, losing access to their blessings until you demonstrate your redeemable qualities through good deeds.
Despite the moral quandaries, aligning with the Dark Brotherhood offers substantial rewards. Completing their quests provides access to some of the most powerful enchanted weapons and top-tier light armor suitable for Marksmen. Furthermore, you will eventually acquire a unique mount and a loyal companion to aid you on your journey.
Joining the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered
To successfully join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered, your initiation requires a dark act: you must murder an innocent NPC and subsequently go to sleep.
In the context of Oblivion, murder refers specifically to the act of killing non-aggressive NPCs and does not extend to hostile creatures or bandits. Ideal locations to find an unsuspecting victim include isolated farms and rural homesteads scattered across the landscape. Alternatively, you can indulge in role-playing a troubled character by eliminating someone within the Skooma Den in Bravil, which lies south of the Imperial City. However, any NPC not associated with a current quest can typically be an easy target, especially when they settle down for the night.
Your “application” will be acknowledged with a message stating, “your killing has been observed by forces unknown, ” signaling that you’re on the right path. The next time you rest in a bed, the quest to officially join the Dark Brotherhood will trigger.
Finding the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary in Oblivion Remastered
After you receive the invitation to join, head toward the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. This location is situated at the eastern edge of Cheydinhal, east of the Imperial City, at the conclusion of the Blue Road.
Upon arriving at the abandoned house, descend into the tunnel that leads to the imposing Black Door. To gain access, you must provide the secret password: “Sanguine, my brother.” Once inside, you will have the opportunity to begin the Dark Brotherhood quests that await you.
