For users frequently connecting with specific friends on Snapchat, the app’s shortcuts feature provides a streamlined way to enhance communication. This functionality simplifies interactions, allowing you to engage with your preferred contacts quickly and efficiently. Below is a detailed guide to assist you in creating your first Snapchat shortcut.
How to Create a Snapchat Shortcut
Many Snapchat users are committed to sustaining their streaks—a feature that encourages daily interaction. By implementing shortcuts, you can effortlessly maintain these streaks without hassle.
If you’re unfamiliar with Snapchat Streaks, they require daily exchanges with a friend over a minimum of three consecutive days to initiate and must be maintained to boost your score. If you’ve lost a streak recently, refer to our helpful suggestions on recovering it.
To get started with creating a shortcut, launch the Snapchat app on your mobile device (iOS or Android) and snap a photo by tapping the shutter button located at the bottom of your screen.

Next, tap on the Send To button.

Instead of selecting a recipient on this screen, look for the + button at the top and tap it.

You can name your shortcut by tapping on Choose Emoji at the top. Selecting an emoji will add a visual element to your shortcut for easy identification.

After choosing your emoji, select the users you want to include and then tap Create Shortcut to finalize your setup.

Your selected emoji will now be visible at the top of the screen. Click it to proceed.

Here, you can choose to create a Private Story for the selected individuals or send them a snap directly by tapping their names. Use the arrow button at the bottom to send your snap.
How to View Your Shortcuts
To view all your created shortcuts, navigate to the Chat tab at the bottom of the app where they will be displayed prominently above your profile picture.

If you need to manage several different friend groups, you can create additional shortcuts by tapping on the New+ button (if necessary, swipe right to see this option) and selecting New Shortcut.

Selecting a specific shortcut will highlight the associated contacts. You can then quickly send snaps using the camera icon or message them directly by choosing their names.

Shortcuts will also be available whenever you intend to send a snap, eliminating the need to rummage through your full contact list.
Editing Your Snapchat Shortcut
If you need to update your shortcut—whether it’s adding or removing contacts, or changing the emoji—you can do so easily in the Chat tab.
Tap on the New+ button at the top, and then select the shortcut you wish to edit.

Press the emoji at the top to modify it. You can also adjust the list of people involved in the shortcut. Once you finish making your changes, click Save.

Removing a Shortcut on Snapchat
If a shortcut is no longer needed, it can be deleted easily. Simply press the New+ button within the Chat section.
Select the shortcut you want to remove, tap on the three dots in the upper corner, and choose Delete from the menu.

Shortcuts are not only a practical way to manage your interactions but are also instrumental in maintaining your Snapchat streaks. Be sure to check your Chat screen for current streaks and familiarize yourself with the emoji meanings to understand your friendship levels.
