Do you want to adorn your Android device with your favorite smartphone photograph? If you’re looking to set an image—especially a wide-angle shot—as your wallpaper, this tutorial is here to guide you through the process effortlessly.
Preparing Your Images for Wallpaper
Before setting any image as your background, it’s essential to make some visual tweaks. Adjust the tone, apply filters, and modify saturation to ensure your image looks its best. The arrangement and cropping will be addressed later in the process.
While many users prefer utilizing dedicated photo editing apps, you can conveniently make necessary edits using Google Photos, commonly pre-installed on most Android devices.
To get started, open Google Photos and select the image you wish to edit. Tap the Edit icon located at the bottom of your screen to access the editing tools.
Make your desired adjustments, including brightness, colors, and saturation. When satisfied, tap Save copy to keep your edited version in Google Photos for future use.
Setting Your Photo as Wallpaper on Android
Previously, setting a wallpaper on Android could be a cumbersome task, often leading to misaligned images sprawling across multiple home screens. However, recent updates have simplified this process, allowing for more manageable cropping and resizing options to keep your wallpaper stationary.
Method 1: Using the Wallpaper Settings
On your Android device, press and hold your home screen, then select Wallpaper & style. In some models, this option may simply read Wallpapers.
You’ll be presented with the preloaded wallpapers. Tap on More wallpapers.
Select My photos to access your personal images.
Navigate through your folders and locate the Download folder containing images you’ve saved. Choose the image you wish to set as your home screen wallpaper. A preview will appear, allowing you to see how the wallpaper will look on your device.
Tap the image preview to adjust its position. You can shift it horizontally and zoom in or out. Once you are happy with the setup, click the tick icon in the upper right corner to proceed.
After finalizing the placement, tap Set wallpaper. You can now choose whether to apply it to the home screen, lock screen, or both.
For landscape images, newer Android versions automatically resize them to fill the screen completely. Older versions might display black bars above and below the image. If the fit isn’t satisfactory, consider the following strategies.

Method 2: Using the Gallery App
Open your preferred Gallery app and find the photo you want to use as wallpaper; for our guide, we are demonstrating with Google’s Gallery app.
Tap the three-dot icon located at the top-right corner.
Select Use as.
Choose between Photos Wallpaper or Gallery Wallpaper (on some devices, this may simply be labeled as Wallpaper).Make adjustments to the wallpaper using gestures and decide if it will be for the home screen or lock screen.
If Google Photos is your primary gallery app, you can set the wallpaper directly from there too. Open the desired image, then press the three dots in the upper-right corner.
From the options presented, swipe and select Set as wallpaper.
This will take you to a preview screen where you can adjust the placement of your wallpaper.
Optimizing Your Image for Wallpaper Fit
If you’re using a landscape image and are not satisfied with the results from the outlined methods, consider these alternative strategies.
Image Cropping
The simplest approach is to crop your image to better suit your screen. You can utilize your gallery app or opt for more specialized photo-editing software. In this example, we will use Google’s Gallery app.
Open the image and tap the Edit button at the bottom.
Next, tap the Crop option.
Crop the image vertically, ensuring you preserve essential details, then hit Save copy. Now, you have an image perfectly sized for use as wallpaper.
Expanding the Image
If your Android device does not automatically expand landscape images, consider third-party applications like Snapseed, which allows for vertical extensions of your images.
Open your image within the app, then access Tools from the bottom menu.
Choose Expand from the available options.
Adjust the vertical bar at the top or bottom of the image to elongate it as needed. You can repeat the expansion multiple times depending on your image’s requirements. Once done, confirm your adjustments by clicking the tick icon in the lower right.
Your edited version is now ready to be set as wallpaper. While expanded images may not be perfect, you can adjust their placement to hide any flaws.
Adding a Frame to Your Wallpaper
If cropping and expanding are not yielding the desired outcome, consider adding borders or frames to your landscape image to ensure it fits seamlessly on your screen. Applications such as InShot are excellent for this purpose, though most photo-editing apps can serve this function.
Open your landscape image within InShot and tap on Canvas.
Select a vertical format such as 9:16, which will center your image while adding blurred borders at the top and bottom.
You can also use the Canvas slider to expand the image as needed. Whichever approach you prefer, you can use this adjusted image as your wallpaper.
