Stellar Blade, Sand Land, and More Exciting Games Coming Out in April

As the number of video games and platforms continue to grow, it can be overwhelming to keep track of all the latest releases. However, I am here to assist you. Each month, I will provide a list of noteworthy games to keep an eye on, including both highly-anticipated triple-A titles and lesser-known indie games.

Despite the jam-packed months of February and March, there is a slight break in April. However, there are still some exciting releases to anticipate, such as Sony’s action-packed Stellar Blade, the Akira-Toriyama-inspired Sand Land, and more. On the indie scene, players can look forward to Devolver’s newest game Children of the Sun, the visually stunning stop-motion adventure Harold Halibut, and more.

In light of that, these are the games you should keep an eye out for in April…

The Main Attractions

Sand Land will be released on Apr. 26 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.

Despite his recent departure, Akira Toriyama has left behind an impressive gaming legacy with beloved series such as Dragon Quest and various adaptations of Dragon Ball. However, for the first time, his lesser-known series, Sand Land, has been adapted into a game. This open-world action RPG features a plethora of unique vehicles to control, giving it a Mad Max-esque feel with a captivating anime twist. Pre-orders for Sand Land are now available.

The game Stellar Blade (PS5, Apr. 26) is set to release on April 26 for the PlayStation 5.

Initially named Project Eve, the Korean-produced action game Stellar Blade has gained recognition for its stunning graphics and the support of Sony as its publisher. While the revealing outfits of Stellar Blade’s characters have raised some concerns, the game’s blend of intense, stylish action reminiscent of PlatinumGames and advanced technology is undoubtedly captivating. You can reserve your copy of Stellar Blade here.

TopSpin 2K25 will be released on Apr. 26 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.

The Top Spin franchise, which gained popularity during 2K Sports’ prime years, has been inactive for over a decade. However, this month marks the return to the court with TopSpin 2K25. The responsibility of reviving the series falls on Mafia developer Hangar 13, a logical choice as they acquired 2K Czech, the former developer of Top Spin. It is uncertain whether this will be a successful comeback, but devoted tennis fans are eagerly anticipating its release. Pre-orders for TopSpin 2K25 are now available.

Emerging Artists

The release date for Children of the Sun on PC is April 9.

Many shooting games exist, but when was the last time you played as…a bullet? That’s the unique concept behind Children of the Sun, an indie sniping game with a stylish design. Each level only gives you one bullet, but with strategic positioning, you can manipulate its path to eliminate multiple targets. As the latest game published by Devolver Digital, you can trust it will be a hit. Check out the Steam page for Children of the Sun to learn more.

Harold Halibut will be released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 on April 16th.

In the 90s, there was a surge of games like The Neverhood that utilized stop-motion-style graphics, which had a powerful impact. However, this trend eventually faded, most likely due to the labor-intensive nature of stop-motion. Fortunately, the new indie adventure game Harold Halibut seeks to revive this style and elevate it to new heights. Unlike earlier games that used claymation, Harold Halibut boasts intricate visuals reminiscent of a Henry Selick (Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline) production. The latest installment in the Tales of Kenzera series, Zau, will be available on multiple gaming platforms including PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch on Apr. 23.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is a beautifully crafted Metroidvania game that draws inspiration from African Bantu culture and the personal experiences of its creative director, Abubakar Salim. Salim, known for his role as Bayek in the Assassin’s Creed games, also serves as the voice of the game’s protagonist. As the latest project from the reputable EA Originals label, this game is sure to captivate players with its compelling story. To learn more about Tales of Kenzera: Zau, visit the game’s Steam page.
