Stefon Diggs trade grade: Rating Texans’ move for 4x Pro Bowl WR as CJ Stroud lands lethal weapon
As part of a blockbuster trade, Stefon Diggs has been given a new team. The unhappy wide receiver from the Buffalo Bills will be joining the Houston Texans for the 2024 season. This significant decision showcases Houston’s determination to create a strong and well-equipped team.
It’s understandable that the Bills parted ways with Diggs, considering his somewhat turbulent time with the team. However, this decision now leaves a significant gap in their offensive line-up. Here are our trade grades for what could be considered the most impactful move of the offseason:
Stefon Diggs trade analysis
Houston Texans: A+ Season Performance
The Houston Texans are being awarded a high grade here. Despite trading a high draft pick, they acquired a top-tier talent at a reasonable price.
Despite being one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, Stefon Diggs is now part of an already talented WR group. In Buffalo, Diggs was often the sole standout, but now he will have the opportunity to play alongside Tank Dell and Nico Collins, as well as Noah Brown, further enhancing the team’s receiving corps.
The Texans recognized C.J. Stroud’s potential when he led them to the playoffs in his first year, and have since made it a priority to equip him with an arsenal of weapons comparable to any NFL player’s. In his second year, they have spared no expense in ensuring he has everything he requires to succeed.
They have made a remarkable trade, solidifying their status as a serious contender. Additionally, acquiring a few late picks is a major success.
Buffalo Bills: Average Performance
Despite the constant trade rumors surrounding Stefon Diggs every offseason, it’s hard to be overly disappointed with the Buffalo Bills’ decision to trade him.
Despite ongoing rumors of a rift in the locker room, they decided to move on and received a decent compensation. While the 2025 second-round pick may not be on par with Diggs’ caliber, it is still a solid acquisition.
The main concern surrounding this trade is that it was made towards the end of the offseason. With the exception of Tyler Boyd and Odell Beckham Jr., who are not top-tier wide receivers, the free agent market for wideouts has already been exhausted. Additionally, the team lacks a solid backup plan, and relying on Khalil Shakur as the number one receiver is not an optimal situation for Josh Allen.
Despite the likelihood that they will heavily focus on the position in the draft, there is no guarantee that they will be successful and they could end up selecting underperforming players. The departure of Diggs creates a significant void on offense, but at least they were able to secure a satisfactory compensation.
