Stefon Diggs Texans trade: Bills send star WR to Houston in blockbuster move
The Houston Texans have acquired star wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills in a blockbuster trade.
On Wednesday, ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed that the Bills and Texans are in the process of finalizing a trade that would send Diggs to Houston in exchange for a draft pick.
According to Schefter, Houston will receive a 2025 second-round pick from the Bills in exchange for Diggs, along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Despite expressing frustration with the Bills, star WR Diggs had been the subject of trade rumors for the past two off-seasons. After much speculation, Buffalo finally decided to pull the trigger and make a deal with Diggs.
Despite numerous rumors, Diggs had previously expressed his desire to retire as a Buffalo Bill during this off-season.
“Yeah, I mean I told (the media) interview after interview I wanted to retire a Bill,” Diggs said to Kay Adams earlier this off-season. “Also, that’s not predicated on me, you know what I’m saying? I gotta keep it in the forefront of my brain that business is business. I like to proceed as such, no matter what.”
With three years remaining on his contract, Diggs will travel to Houston, where his cap number stands at $27,354,00.
By trading Diggs, Buffalo has opened up the opportunity to draft a WR in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. This move also relieves some much-needed cap space for the Bills, who were facing salary cap constraints during the off-season.
Stefon Diggs’ Impact on the Buffalo Bills Offense
In March of 2020, the Minnesota Vikings traded Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills in return for their first, fifth, and sixth-round picks in the 2020 NFL draft, as well as a fourth-round pick in 2021. The first-round pick was ultimately used to select Justin Jefferson.
In his first season with the Bills, Diggs proved to be a valuable asset, achieving a career-high of 1,535 receiving yards. He continued this success throughout his four seasons with the team, consistently recording over 1,000 receiving yards and solidifying his position as Buffalo’s top wide receiver.
During his four years with the Buffalo Bills, Stefon Diggs was selected as a Pro Bowler every year.
