- This bug currently simplifies the process of gift giving within the game.
In the latest episode of ongoing updates for the adored indie simulation game Stardew Valley, the Nintendo Switch version has experienced a slight hiccup. Historically, the game has flourished over nearly a decade with consistent updates that not only eliminate bugs but also enrich the gaming experience with fresh content.
A significant addition to the game was the much-anticipated Update 1.6, released last year, which provided players with a plethora of new features and items to explore. This update reignited interest among the fan base, and since its implementation, further patches have been issued to correct lingering issues, particularly in the Switch edition.
The most recent update addressed several bugs affecting the Switch platform, including fixes related to the raccoon shop, the infamous “divorce crash,”and rain randomization. However, it appears that while these fixes were beneficial, they also unintentionally introduced a new problem regarding how players interact with NPCs through gift giving.
Stardew Valley Switch Update Presents Unintended Gift Giving Bug
It appears so… We’re looking into it. That will be fixed too. In the meantime I guess it’s "easy mode" for befriending people… — ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) January 18, 2025
This bug, brought to light by a Twitter user, allows players to give any item to the villagers, who will respond positively as if they received their favorite gift. Normally, players are encouraged to learn the unique preferences of each villager, making thoughtful selections to enhance friendships.
With the revelation of this gift-giving bug, ConcernedApe confirmed that the developers are actively investigating the issue and aim to implement a solution in a future update. Until then, players on the Switch may find it significantly easier to win over the various residents of Pelican Town.

For some players, this bug may present an enjoyable shortcut for friendship-building, while others may feel it undermines the rewarding nature of discovering each character’s individual tastes. A core aspect of Stardew Valley is the vibrant character interactions, where players take the time to understand the residents of Pelican Town. Despite this temporary flaw, the game offers a vast array of content beyond gift-giving, allowing fans to immerse themselves in other engaging gameplay elements until a fix is rolled out.
