Next Chapter for Kelleran Beq: The Jedi Knights Comic

Marc Guggenheim shared intriguing insights about Star Wars: Jedi Knights, particularly highlighting an entire issue devoted to a new journey starring Kelleran Beq. The character’s unveiling in The Mandalorian episode titled “Chapter 20: The Foundling”garnered enthusiastic reception, especially since it marked Ahmed Best’s return to the Star Wars universe after his controversial role as Jar Jar Binks. Although Beq’s scene in The Mandalorian was brief, its significance left fans curious about his backstory—a narrative thread the new comic series is set to unravel.
During his interview on “Star Wars Explained, ” Guggenheim elaborated on the thematic structure of his forthcoming series:
My story is about the Jedi Knights, sort of at the height of their powers, pre-Phantom Menace. The way the book works is [that] it’s a little bit like the old Marvel team-ups where we’ll get different combinations of Jedi in each issue, and each issue is standalone, akin to mini Star Wars movies.
With Kelleran Beq joining Guggenheim’s ensemble of Jedi, fans are eager to delve into Grogu’s mysterious rescuer. However, it’s essential to note that since Star Wars: Jedi Knights is set before The Phantom Menace, fans might not uncover details surrounding Beq’s activities during Order 66 from Revenge of the Sith. Given Grogu’s age and his established character arc, it’s possible Beq had prior interactions with the young Padawan within the timeline of the comics.

Ahmed Best’s return as Kelleran Beq electrified Star Wars fans, marking a standout moment in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. After enduring significant backlash following Jar Jar Binks’ debut in the prequels, Best openly discussed his emotional struggles and the complexities surrounding his decision to return. In a candid chat with StarWars.com, he revealed the weight of that choice:
I had to think about it. I’ve been in the Star Wars world for such a long time and my story is such a rollercoaster ride of emotions. So, coming back to Star Wars wasn’t an easy decision for me. I did have to mull it over. I was excited, but also nervous about returning.
I want Star Wars to deliver; I care deeply about the storytelling, the mythology, and the fans. My intention is always to contribute positively, and that made my decision to come back easier when I was working with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
The enthusiasm surrounding Best’s role as Beq confirmed that the fandom was equally enthusiastic about his return.
Throughout three seasons of The Mandalorian, fans have been left with numerous questions about Grogu’s escape during Order 66. Although Beq’s appearance at the Jedi Temple shed some light on Grogu’s survival, it also raised further inquiries about whether he was Beq’s Padawan, his overall importance in the Jedi Order, and the journey they took after leaving Coruscant. Though Star Wars: Jedi Knights may not provide answers regarding these mysteries, the prospect of learning about Beq’s earlier adventures is certainly thrilling.
Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 is set for release on March 5, 2025, from Marvel Comics.
