Despite sparking debate among fans, Star Wars: The Acolyte has successfully introduced a host of intriguing characters to the expansive Star Wars galaxy. These new figures inject vitality into the storyline, providing a refreshing perspective, even as they stray from established fan expectations. While it’s uncertain if these characters will grace our screens again, they have already begun their journey in the Star Wars comic universe.
In honor of Black History Month—a celebration observed each February in the United States—Marvel Comics is releasing variant covers featuring Black heroes from the Star Wars universe. This initiative spotlights characters from The Acolyte, including the complex twin protagonists/villains Osha and Mae, along with their mother and coven leader, Mother Aniseya.

Osha and Mae will be featured on a variant cover for Star Wars: The High Republic – Fear of the Jedi #1, illustrated by Mateus Manhanini. Meanwhile, Mother Aniseya is set to grace the cover of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1, with artwork by Karen S. Darboe. Notably, these variant covers also commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Star Wars comic line’s revival under Marvel Comics.

While details remain sparse regarding the characters, the cancellation of the series makes it unlikely that fans will see deeper explorations of these figures on screen. This gap presents an ideal opportunity for the Star Wars comic series to flesh out their narratives, expanding on the rich backstories of these unique characters.

Although Mother Aniseya met her end in the series, delving into her origins and the history of her coven could captivate fans, particularly with respect to their unique ability to manipulate life through the Force. Conversely, Osha and Mae’s journey is just beginning, leaving ample room for storytelling. Their paths could significantly impact the Sith’s influence within the larger narrative of the Star Wars Skywalker Saga.
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1 is set for release on February 5th, 2025, while Star Wars: The High Republic – Fear of the Jedi #1 will be available on February 19th, 2025, both published by Marvel Comics.
