Star Wars Outlaws Releases on Steam This November as Ubisoft Ends PC Exclusivity
Ubisoft is facing challenges today, as the renowned gaming publisher has announced a significant delay for one of its most anticipated game launches of 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In addition, the company reported disappointing sales figures for Star Wars Outlaws. Furthermore, Ubisoft is changing its release strategy for future games on PC, marking a favorable turn for Steam users.
In a recent financial update, Ubisoft disclosed that Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world adventure developed by Massive Entertainment, is set to launch on Steam on November 21.
“In response to player feedback, Ubisoft’s development teams are fully dedicated to promptly implementing a set of updates aimed at enhancing the player experience, ensuring Star Wars Outlaws engages a broad audience during the holiday season and establishes itself as a reliable long-term title,” the company stated.
Back in 2019, Ubisoft made the decision to bypass Steam for game launches, choosing to distribute its titles through the Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store instead. At that time, the company expressed its intent to support Epic’s goal of “disrupting the video game industry”by offering a larger revenue share.
In 2022, Ubisoft quietly began returning its back catalog to Steam, though initially, these titles were older games that had been on the market for several years. The push to include more recent titles has gradually increased; for example, Skull and Bones debuted on Steam less than a year after its release on Ubisoft and Epic Games Store. The impending release of Star Wars Outlaws on Steam represents a significantly shorter wait time of just three months.
Today’s announcement also confirmed that all of Ubisoft’s upcoming titles will feature day-one releases on Steam. This includes the now-delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will launch on November 21 across Steam and other platforms. With Steam setting new user records—38 million concurrent online users as recently reported—it’s evident why Ubisoft is eager to reestablish its presence on the platform amid declining sales figures.
