Star Citizen Developer Hiring for Positions Involving Current and Next-Gen Consoles

Cloud Imperium Games Seeks Cinematic Animators: Potential Shift to Console Development?

Cloud Imperium Games, the studio behind the ambitious Star Citizen project, is on the lookout for talented Cinematic Animators at two of its global locations: Frankfurt and Manchester. Candidates are encouraged to have robust experience in creating animations for current and next-generation consoles.

The Role of a Cinematic Animator

As a part of the Cinematic Design team, successful applicants will collaborate with other Animators to deliver compelling performances from some of the industry’s top talent, integrating these performances into the narrative of Squadron 42. This role involves the creation of immersive scenes featuring dynamic storytelling, emotional depth, and thrilling action sequences.

  • Significant background in game animation production, particularly for current or next-gen console platforms.

The Future of Star Citizen

The recruitment efforts have led to speculation within the gaming community that Cloud Imperium Games may be contemplating a console version of Star Citizen or its highly anticipated single-player component, Squadron 42, for platforms such as PlayStation and Xbox.

Despite ongoing curiosity, Cloud Imperium has not yet confirmed any plans for a console port. The studio has historically focused on PC development, with Game Director Chris Roberts emphasizing that the scale and ambition of the game can only be fully realized on this platform.

However, it’s worth noting that advancements in console technology may alter this narrative. What was once deemed impossible for platforms such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One may now be achievable with the enhanced capabilities of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, or even future generations expected to launch around 2027 and 2028.

Squadron 42 Release Update

After years of development, Squadron 42 now has a projected release date in 2026, accompanied by a new gameplay demonstration showcased at the recent CitizenCon event. This title is set to feature an impressive roster of high-profile actors, including Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Mark Strong, Henry Cavill, and many others, contributing to a cinematic experience unlike any other.

Challenges Ahead for Cloud Imperium Games

In recent news, it has come to light that Cloud Imperium Games has lost key personnel skilled in ‘server meshing’, a crucial technology aimed at enhancing gameplay by facilitating smooth transitions between star systems without loading screens. While this development may not directly impact the single-player Squadron 42, it raises concerns regarding the future of Star Citizen.

We reached out to Cloud Imperium for a comment regarding these staffing changes, but as of now, no response has been provided.
