Squirrel Girl’s Epic Comeback Against Marvel’s Greatest Villain is Here

Marvel is preparing for its much-anticipated event, One World Under Doom, and fan-favorite character Squirrel Girl is poised for a triumphant return. This marks her first significant appearance since the conclusion of her solo series in 2019. Squirrel Girl is back on the scene, ready to kick butt and eat nuts.

As excitement builds for the event’s launch in February, AIPT Comics was able to interview Ryan North, the writer leading the series that shares the event’s name.

Prior to the turmoil presented by a formidable Sorcerer Supreme, Ryan North penned Doreen Green’s last solo series, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Upon being asked about Squirrel Girl’s role in the upcoming event, North expressed his enthusiasm, confirming that the beloved hero will indeed be making an appearance.

“The bottom line is there’s no way I was ever gonna do a Marvel event and not include Squirrel Girl in it,” North stated. “If she wasn’t there, people would be like, ‘Well, the only reason why I didn’t put her there is ‘cause she would solve this problem in 10 minutes.’” – Ryan North

For those new to Squirrel Girl, Doreen Green is no ordinary hero. Born with squirrel-like abilities, a bushy tail, and the power to communicate with squirrels, she embodies a blend of charm and formidable strength. While her cheerful demeanor often leads others to underestimate her, she is one of Marvel’s most powerful superheroes, earning her the title of “Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.”

Doreen has triumphed over formidable foes like Thanos, Galactus, and Doctor Doom. Accompanied by her sidekick Tippy Toe, she boasts an impressive track record in battles. However, her real advantage lies in her exceptional ability to form connections. Even notorious villains such as Kraven the Hunter have undergone transformations thanks to her friendship.

Experiencing a Resurgence in Popularity

Unfortunately, Squirrel Girl has previously hovered on the brink of narrative abandonment. Aside from Ryan North, who has showcased her strength as a lead character, other writers have too frequently reduced her to a comedic role. Nonetheless, her resilience is a significant part of her appeal. Enthusiastic fans have long awaited her return to the spotlight. With Doreen’s appearance in the new Marvel Rivals video game, the anticipation for her resurgence builds as One World Under Doom approaches its release.

North’s willingness to incorporate Squirrel Girl into this event, even in a cameo, is exciting. Their past encounters, notably her last showdown with Doctor Doom, did not favor the villain. Perhaps we can expect some squirrel-inspired confrontations as Doreen steps into the limelight once again. This could indeed be an opportunity for this exceptional hero to reclaim her status. Whatever the outcome, her return is sure to captivate readers and ignite demand for a new Squirrel Girl series – an endeavor that fans wholeheartedly support.
