Significant Changes Announced for Splitgate Franchise as 1047 Games Moves Forward
In a recent wave of developments, 1047 Games, the studio behind the Splitgate franchise, has made some challenging yet strategic choices concerning its popular arena shooter titles. Among these decisions, the newly launched Splitgate 2 has been reverted to a beta phase, and updates have been temporarily halted. Furthermore, the original Splitgate servers are set to shut down as part of a cost-cutting initiative. However, there’s a silver lining for dedicated fans of the original game.
Peer-to-Peer Gameplay Support to be Introduced
Exciting news has emerged from the studio: 1047 Games successfully implemented peer-to-peer support for Splitgate. An update is scheduled for release next week, enhancing the free-to-play experience by allowing players to host games on their own hardware—be it consoles or PCs. This new feature will facilitate seamless game joining through a server browser, enabling communities to engage more freely. Importantly, any custom maps developed by players will be fully operational during these matches, adding an extra layer of creativity.
“You’ve invested time, energy, and passion into the original Splitgate, which deserves to be preserved, ”says the developer regarding why it opted for this route.“Our community is everything to us. While we can’t keep the full online infrastructure running indefinitely, we can make sure the game itself lives on for anyone who wants to keep playing.”

Adding More Content While Changing Structure
In tandem with the server modifications, 1047 Games is set to introduce a plethora of new content for players. Notably, some will include unpublished material, albeit in early stages of development:
- Thirteen work-in-progress blockout arena maps, featuring designs that were among the first showcased in Splitgate 2.
- The unreleased Takedown map known as Simulation Juliet.
- Access to a complete range of cosmetics for everyone, leading to the phasing out of the Battle Pass, Rewards Center, Store, and Drops.
The transition to a peer-to-peer structure will coincide with the shutdown of dedicated servers on August 29. It’s important to note that certain features will also be discontinued, including achievements, leaderboards, playstreaks, and anti-cheat support.
