1047 Games Announces Major Changes Following Splitgate 2’s Launch
Months after the launch of Splitgate 2, which introduced a surprise Battle Royale mode, 1047 Games is facing significant challenges. The free-to-play arena shooter has not met the expectations of both players and the studio, prompting a series of important changes within the company.
Reassessing Splitgate 2’s Launch Timing
The studio acknowledged the community’s concerns regarding the premature launch of Splitgate 2, admitting that it was rolled out with several rushed features. In response, 1047 Games announced that the game would revert to its beta status. While players can still enjoy the game in this form, extensive behind-the-scenes development is set to continue until at least early 2026. However, the upcoming Season 3 content update remains on track for release.
“We’re returning not just to our roots in what we build, but in how we build it – with you, ”said the company.“That means more playtests, more surveys, more listening, and truly being community first. Our goal is to combine the DNA of the first game with the best improvements from the second.”

Alongside this readjustment, 1047 Games has had to make the difficult decision to downsize its team, although specific numbers regarding layoffs have not been disclosed. The studio expressed hope to rehire affected members when circumstances improve.
Service Changes for Original Splitgate
As part of efforts to manage operational costs, 1047 Games will be shutting down the servers for the original Splitgate within the next month. The studio mentioned that maintaining these servers has incurred substantial expenses, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars over recent years, necessitating a focus on their current team and future development.
Despite the shutdown, the studio is exploring options for offline play or peer-to-peer matchmaking for fans eager to continue enjoying Splitgate, though these alternatives have not yet been finalized.
