Microsoft is reportedly working with Certain Affinity on a Monster Hunter clone

Microsoft is working with developer Certain Affinity on a new Monster Hunter-like exclusive, according to a new report from VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb. This has also been independently verified by Jez Corden of Windows Central. A certain Affinity is known as a support studio for various games from Left 4 Dead to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The team has also worked with Microsoft on many Halo games.

If reports are correct, this could be Certain Affinity’s biggest project yet. Microsoft wants to diversify the types of games available on Xbox Game Pass, and having a Monster Hunter-like exclusive is critical to that strategy. Grubb said the following on the Giant Bomb show.

They’re working with Certain Affinity on something like a Monster Hunter-style game… a clone of Monster Hunter. They see this style of play succeeding. .. They want more variety in the games they put on Game Pass and this is an example of that.

According to Windows Central, the game could be introduced in 2023 and released in 2024. It has been in development since mid-2020. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this timeline may be pushed back due to many working from home game developers taking steps to keep their employees safe.

Let’s hope Certain Affinity can pull this off. It will be interesting to see the result of their work in the coming years. Microsoft used to announce games too early – like Scalebound – only to cancel them later because development wasn’t going well. Because of this, gamers should not expect an announcement anytime soon.
