Sony Unveils Multi-Device DualSense Pairing Feature in PS5 System Update Beta

Exciting Developments in PlayStation’s Ecosystem: New DualSense Update

PlayStation is preparing to enhance its gaming ecosystem with a new beta update for the PS5 system. This significant upgrade allows both the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers to connect seamlessly to up to four devices simultaneously. Currently available to selected beta testers in specific regions, this update is expected to greatly simplify switching between PS5 consoles, PCs, Macs, and mobile devices, facilitating a more integrated and versatile gaming experience.

Streamlining Controller Pairing

Historically, using a DualSense controller with different devices required tedious Bluetooth re-pairing each time. With this new beta update, users can now register up to four devices at once, with each allocated a specific slot on the controller. This feature aims to enhance convenience for gamers who utilize multiple platforms.

How to Pair Your Controllers

To connect your DualSense or DualSense Edge controller to multiple devices, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect any attached USB cable from the controller to ensure it’s in wireless mode.
  2. Check that the light bar and player indicator are off.
  3. Press and hold the PS button along with one of the action buttons (Triangle, Circle, Cross, or Square) for over five seconds. The light bar and player indicators will flash twice.
  4. Enable Bluetooth on your target device and select the option to add a Bluetooth device. When your controller appears on the list, select it.

The light bar will indicate that the connection is successful, and the player-indicator LEDs will flash to show which slot has been assigned (1 through 4).

Beta Testing and Future Updates

This beta program is currently limited to a select group of invited participants. These players will receive an email invitation shortly, allowing them to download and experience these new features. It is important to note that the functionalities available in beta may change or be removed before the wide release, which is anticipated later this year.

Sustainability Features Coming Soon

In addition to the new pairing capability, Sony is also previewing a feature called “Power Saver for Games.”This mode aims to allow compatible games to operate with reduced performance to lower energy consumption, thereby contributing to a smaller environmental footprint. Although this feature won’t be available in the beta, once it launches, users will have the option to enable Power Saver, which will automatically scale back the performance of supported titles. If you choose to forego this option or engage with unsupported games, the PS5 will maintain its standard performance and power usage.
